International Youth Day is observed on August 12 each year. It was established by the United Nations in 2000 to recognize the contributions of young people to society and to raise awareness about the challenges they face. Each year, the day is themed around a specific issue affecting youth, aiming to inspire action and engagement in addressing these concerns. The theme for International Youth Day 2024 is “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World.” This theme focuses on equipping young people with the skills needed to address climate change and promote sustainable development. It highlights the importance of integrating green skills into education and training to support youth in contributing to a more sustainable future. As an educational institution that thrives with the motto “Sustainability drives Globality”, our zealous pursuits towards sustainable actions are at the heart of all our initiatives. Be it Sustainable Fashion or Sustainable Food Production or Sustainable Energy, students of MRIS IB are diving deep into the various segments to practice and propagate sustainable development! #sustainable #greenskillsforyouth #greenskills #ib #ibo #ibeducation #ibatmris #pyp #myp #dp #expectmore #internationalyouthday

Times Higher Education is partnering with the UN Environment Programme on a major new initiative to drive the global transition to a net zero and nature positive future by enhancing the role of higher and further education institutions in expanding green learning and skills. I was honored to launch the new International Green Learning and Skills Accelerator (IGLSA) yesterday in Bangkok, Thailand at the Global Sustainable Development Congress. The Accelerator also developed with Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK), is a new resources platform on Times Higher Education's website, to share intelligence on the green skills required by society and resources on best teaching and learning practices - but more importantly, it will become a global community of change-makers. The Accelerator is live here: https://lnkd.in/ejzdDg3C And you can register your interest to be part of the new community on the site. According to our new research, 75% of sustainability professionals in education believe their institutions aim to support green learning, yet only a quarter have audited their curricula for green skills. The main barriers identified include lack of teacher training, unclear definitions, and insufficient incentives and assessments. Together we can break down these barriers and help deliver a sustainable future for all. Sam Barratt at UNEP said: “Green skills shortage threatens to be a real drag which threatens to hold back the global ambitions for a net zero and nature positive economy. Working with students and universities to bridge that gap and ensure that employers have a surfeit of talent needs to be a clearer mission for the education sector. We look forward to working with Times Higher Education and SoS to unlock this challenge with education partners across the world.” I'd like to thank the platform's co-editor's Tim Sowula and Iain (Paddy) Patton for all the hard work to get this off the ground, and also Noémie Métais and Giulia Salvetti and UNEP for providing clear focus and support and Quinn Runkle, Amy Padfield and all at SOS. Thanks also to Dr Julian Skyrme, Young-Ran Hur and Mana Saza for joining me for the live launch in Bangkok, and providing such valuable insight. #GreenEconomy #Sustainability #Education #NetZero #UNEP #IGLSA #GSDCongress #THEGlobalImpact #TimesHigherEducation #ClimateAction
