A rarity in UXR - 4 Junior or Entry level positions. UXR has a problem with too few Junior-level positions. Most positions are asking for 3-5+ years of experience. How is someone entering the field from school or transitioning from another role supposed to start their careers?

Do you have advice for how to ACTUALLY get a job in UX for someone who: 1) has a PhD in Psychology 2) meets all the minimum research, writing, management, and data analyses skills required for UX. 3) has been searching for months and applies to 20 jobs per week 4) knows that they would be an amazingly exceptional team member. Or is it only people who have over 10 years UX experience getting UX jobs now-a-days? Yes, I know the market is tough. Yes, it's all about networking. Yes, competition is tough with UX bachelor degrees and students who get UX internships, and UX layoffs, etc. But why is it so hard for a young, Black, educated woman to get a UX job?

🌟 I am excited to share my recent practice project: designing a clinical trials dashboard. 🌟 When most people think of UX/UI design, websites and mobile apps often come to mind. However, in today's rapidly evolving tech landscape, B2B products are booming, and the importance of designing intuitive dashboards cannot be overstated. With the ease of developing SaaS products, many companies are now offering customized solutions tailored to specific business needs. This project is my first step towards mastering SaaS products and diving deeper into business requirements and data visualization 📊. I am eager to explore how effective design can transform complex data into actionable insights that drive decisions. I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on my project or any tips you may have for improving my design skills. Additionally, I am actively seeking entry-level product design internships or full-time roles where I can further apply my skills and contribute to meaningful projects. Looking forward to continuing this journey and refining my abilities to create impactful user experiences! #UXUIDesign #SaaS #DataVisualization #B2B #ClinicalTrials #DesignJourney #JobSearch #ProductDesign #UserExperience #DashboardDesign #EntryLevel #Internship #CareerOpportunities #DesignThinking #DataDriven #UIUXDeveloper #Portfolio

My internship as a Product Manager at Royal IHC ended last week. It was a fantastic five months that showed the value of my UX Research background in product management. It also hinted to me the next steps I need to take as a Product Manager. Here are my key learnings on how to become a better PM: [Must] Know your tech setup During feature development, I invested significant time consulting with engineers to understand what is feasible or challenging to implement. Effective communication between product and engineering is essential, but even minor details like screen scrolling required verification. Knowing your tech setup lets you avoid tons of small questions and focus on truly important topics. I thought my programming experience would help and it did, to an extent. But it still doesn’t cut it when you get down to the specifics of the implementation. So, when I start the new job, I’ll familiarize myself with our engineering toolkit first. [Should] Think of user-centered design in business terms As an ex-UX Researcher, I’m good at finding UX problems and proposing design solutions. However, my design suggestions went mostly to an already extensive backlog. Turned out not all UX problems are worth the trouble. Some problems are simply unimportant, others are way too costly to fix. Therefore, considering UX in business terms helped me prioritize and advocate for my ideas: - How do these ideas impact KPIs? To what extent? - How much effort is required for implementation? Impact Effort Matrix was a simple yet effective tool that I’ve learned dealing with this problem. In the future, I want to learn more about unit economics to ensure the viability of the products I manage. [Could] Be scrappy when dealing with problems UX Research significantly contributes to product development, yet not all teams can afford a specialist or established UXR practices. UX guerrilla methods help solve some UXR problems at no cost. This approach helps you design a better product. It also helps you show the value of UXR to the stakeholders who may consider investing in this in the future. I have written on this topic in a separate post: https://lnkd.in/eGmadHxu In the future, I will seek out practices with a high value-to-cost ratio. If you have any suggestions, please share them in the comments. P.S. I’m looking for a job as UX Researcher or Data Analyst. I design. I research. I write code. Check out my CV: https://lnkd.in/em899HB5

💻 Have you ever wanted to hire someone for a job or task but ended up doing it yourself, and now you have a new skill to be proud of? Let me share my story. As I finalize our game this weekend, I can't help but feel proud of myself for a milestone I achieved. I was initially looking to hire a UX/UI intern to build a website for me. During a conversation with my sister, we realized how much AI has improved and concluded that I should give it a shot myself. The webpage idea wasn’t overly complex, and while it might take a little more time, I saw it as an opportunity to learn a new skill. And guess what? I did it! I built the website myself! Yes, AI and Wix played a significant role, but the satisfaction of seeing it come together was all mine. Sure, hiring an intern would have been faster, but in the end, the data and content would still come from me, and it’s a lot of data. This website is a crucial part of our game, and I’m thrilled that I could contribute to its creation. Learning something new and applying it to a project that’s so close to my heart was incredibly rewarding. It’s been a fun, creative journey, and I’m excited to see how it enhances the overall experience of our game. What’s a new skill you’ve recently learned or a project you’ve taken on? Have you ever tackled something yourself instead of hiring someone, and felt that sense of accomplishment? Let’s share our stories and inspire each other to keep pushing boundaries! 🚀 Stay tuned – the waitlist for the game is coming soon on Financial Education Crew Pvt Ltd (FEC) #LearnSomethingNew #AI #DIYWebsite #ProudMoment #EntrepreneurLife #GameDevelopment

✍️ Interview: Yue Shen Internship at Habidatum Read on Medium: https://lnkd.in/dfSWM5j9 During the summer, Habidatum collaborates with interns from diverse backgrounds and locations to delve into compelling topics in data analytics and business. In 2023, the internship program focused on UX and marketing research. We are now sharing the insights of our interns. Today, we highlight Yue Shen, a UX Researcher & Designer, MSI Student at University of Michigan. According to research by Forrester, every dollar invested in UX design can result in a return on investment (ROI) between $2 and $100. Improving the user experience of a website or app can lead to higher conversion rates, increased sales, and greater customer satisfaction. UX design and the real estate business share similarities, as both involve the strategic placement of elements, whether it’s a button on a website or a building in a physical space. “Location, Location, Location” isn’t just a mantra for real estate agents; it’s also a fundamental principle of UX design. Just as the right location can make or break a property’s value, the placement of elements on a webpage or app can greatly impact user satisfaction and engagement. Therefore, at Habidatum, UX design extends beyond mere digital interfaces. Read full story on Medium: https://lnkd.in/dfSWM5j9
