The truth? The #academic world is riddled with inequalities. We often think hard work directly leads to success, but reality doesn't always agree. While I'm grateful for my opportunities, I know much of it comes down to sheer luck. Why? Because not everyone gets the same start. Top colleges often go to students with supportive parents. #PhD hopefuls thrive on strong undergrad endorsements. #Professors secure large grants through their networks. But should the past determine future? Absolutely not. That's why I'm pledging 10 to 15% of my time, energy, and resources to shatter these barriers. It's time to democratize science and champion the undervalued talents worldwide. We shouldn’t accept a system that sidelines potentially groundbreaking contributors due to bad luck. Join me on the #R3ciprocity platform where we're building tools, fostering encouragement, and spreading knowledge. Together, we can ignite a movement to transform science. Let’s create a world where everyone gets a fair chance at making their mark. Are you with me? Let’s revolutionize #science and make it accessible for all. The journey might be long, but the impact will last forever. #ChangeScience #DemocratizeScience

What a great summit at my alma mater University of Virginia . Truly timely as higher education wallows through the waves of change. Thank you Kevin McDonald, J.D., Ed.D. and Terrell Strayhorn, PhD for this space. During the entire I had a few mental clicks that confirmed some of my own research on sense of belonging, my experience of creating spaces of belonging and some of my own observations… • When considering sense of belonging it’s a lot more complex and nuanced. When one has experienced a lack of belonging it becomes an invisible wound that does eventually heal, but it leaves a very visible scar. As such, we subconsciously develop limiters like scar tissue because the first instance that we experience a lack of belonging, we trigger muscle memory that reminds us of the pain of the initial cut. The spaces, places and people who resonate the aura of the first cut triggers us, causing us to disconnect almost instantly. This is often the experiences of many communities who do not feel seen, heard, or valued. • Creating a sense of belonging requires active awareness of the factors that influence engagement in all aspects. We get so caught up with the business of creating successful students, that we often ignore the tax of engagement that requires some to be forced to work within spaces that are toxic to their soul; this results sometimes in silent suffering especially for those who have the least amount of privilege to have an active voice in the space called to be transformative. • Sense of belonging is a critical issue in the education pipeline and we must recognize that all people, no matter the labels or hats they wear, are entitled to feel safe, seen, valued and apart of community. We can’t create belonging that is one size fits all, but must instead meet people where their greatest needs are. Belonging is not about giving people what we perceive as their needs, but instead asking what they need and making room at the table for that need to be met in full. So many more thoughts as I ponder and consider and mull on the critical meaning of belonging in education, a space that historically was not created for all to have access. #senseofbelonging #uva #wahoowa #deib #meaning #impact

PREPARING THE YOUNGER GENERATION FOR A POST GROWTH WORLD You can believe the transhumanists and their dream of immortality or understand that the only way we survive is thru the next generation. If you believe in the latter, then you, we have the duty to prepare the next generation for what they will face : 1) Speaking the truth, let's stop bullshitting around with green growth and other excuses to keep the status quo, the sooner they understand, the better. 2) Making space for grief is very essential as the promises and dreams we keep on spreading are only mirages and very few will realize them 3) Preparing them to live in a post growth world, kind of make sense no ? 4) Reform the educational system to support the education, a post growth world, requires this article is very worth reading, unless you are afraid of facing the reality, but you aren't, are you? #education #newdreams #change #postgrowth #futuregeneration
