The best part of LinkedIn I joined LinkedIn less than a year ago and, overall, I like the posts from people I chose to follow and dislike most of the "suggested by the algorithm" motivational, HR, marketing, leadership, etc. posts. However, the best part, at least for me, is to see updates by our Forestry students. Looking at their new jobs, either in New Zealand or very far away. Pictures in the office, dealing with tree establishment, forest fires, forest management, processing, etc. It makes me happy to feel even tangentially connected to their new experiences outside the university. Cheers to all of them. #forestry

Listen to Samuel. His advice can change your life

Many Forestry and Agriculture students don't know they can get global opportunities, including internships. As an undergraduate at the Department of Forestry, the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Samuel Fajana got an internship opportunity he completed at the IUFRO - International Union of Forest Research Organizations headquarters in Austria. I am sure you know that means a lot for a forestry student. As a Forester, I have also completed some professional online training under IUFRO. Thank you for sharing your unique story especially how Physiology transitioned to doing amazingly well with Forestry. I am sure everything we discussed will help the prospective students and undergraduates. Full video https://lnkd.in/etv7be5y #career talks #university #Agric-related courses #opportunity

What Do You Have to Offer? What are your experiences and how can they help our company? These are the questions we hear more often in job interviews nowadays. The focus is now shifting away from just our educational status to what we can actually do and the hands-on experiences we've had. It’s no longer enough to just list your degrees and certificates. Employers want to know about your real-world skills. They’re interested in how you've applied your knowledge, the problems you've solved, and the tangible results you've achieved. This shift makes perfect sense. After all, having a piece of paper doesn't always mean you’re prepared for the challenges of the job. Experience teaches you to think on your feet, adapt to changing situations, and come up with innovative solutions. It’s about going into the work, making mistakes, learning from them, and continuously improving. As a forester undergoing internship, I'm gaining invaluable hands-on experience and what it means to "Get my hands dirty" in my field. I’ve been involved in planting trees, understanding the intricate process of land clearing, and preparing the land for digging and pitting. These tasks have given me a deeper appreciation of the hard work and precision that goes into forest plantation and sustainable forestry. Special thanks to Johannes Mokwena, the forest manager at Rex Forestry for the incredible tour of the forest plantation and for taking his time to share his journey as a forester. Being able to see the other operations carried out and ask in-depth questions has been enlightening. This experience has clarified so many things for me and has renewed my dreams and aspirations in forestry. His journey also helped me realign my goals into becoming the practical forester I aim to become. #ExperienceOverCertification #ProfessionalGrowth #Forestry #Sustainability #HandsOnLearning

Years in the making, we have finally released www.ForestryCareers.com. Designed to be used in the classroom as well as at home, it's an educational tool that takes students through the forest lifecycle to understand all the incredible, sustainability-focused jobs it takes to support the forestry industry. The website features dozens of educational videos, questions to help students focus in on the important (and STEM-related) details, and more than 30 job profiles with quotes and photos from people across the industry who work in those roles. We intentionally built this website separately from the Rayonier site because we want it to be a tool the whole industry can use, including our peers, forestry organizations and forestry schools as we all seek to reach younger generations about the amazing opportunities our industry has to offer. This idea started with the Rayonier forestry team, who saw a need to attract more talent to our industry. As the parent of a high school junior, myself, I knew the questions that come to a parent's mind when your child is interested in a career path you know little about: What kind of money could you make doing a job that, frankly, sounds too fun to pay well? What is required from an education standpoint? Could you support a family with that job? Is there a ladder to move up in this career over time? Our new site answers those questions, to the extent that my son is now seriously thinking about a career in forestry! I hope www.ForestryCareers.com inspires many more students to consider joining us in an industry you can truly be proud to be a part of.
We’re excited to announce the launch of www.ForestryCareers.com — a new educational website designed to help more people discover the rewarding careers available in the forestry industry! 🌲 Forestry plays a crucial role in both our economy and environment, and we need talented individuals to help manage forests sustainably for years to come. With lessons centered around each stage in the forest lifecycle as well as dozens of detailed job profiles, the Forestry Careers site offers valuable resources for students, teachers, parents, and those exploring career opportunities in forestry. It’s also a great tool for forestry professionals looking to engage with future leaders in the industry. Check it out at www.ForestryCareers.com!

OPPORTUNITIES!!! Is it really the scarcity of job chances or the mindset of some students who belittle the value of their degree even before graduating??? I have heard comments like; "Yeah, I just want to get the certificate" "Yeah, I just want to graduate" "Yeah, I just want to pass through the four walls of a university" Lets place aside people who were/are forced to study I doubt if anyone with this mindset is here, but if you are, I urge you to reconsider. Recently, I spoke about the forestry sector's exciting opportunities. Opportunities often arise from problems, and the closer you are to the solutions, the better your chances of seizing those opportunities. It's all about being proactive and solution-oriented. Thanks to my co-speakers at this webinar Bright Kusi Appiah and an incredible teacher and father Folaranmi Babalola, PhD who was all ears and meticulous in his responses, ensuring satisfaction, I didn't end up as a speaker but left as a student enriched with valuable insights. I'm still exploring the opportunities as a forestry student, and with each step, new doors open. The more I learn, the more I realize there's always more to learn. Someday, I will share the power of learning beyond the classroom with all of us, for now let us focus on nurturing a growth mindset. #Forestry #Opportunities #Careeropportunities #Naturelovers
