U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence’s Post

The U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence welcomes Col. Clint Cody as AVCOE Chief of Staff! During his career, the Master Army Aviator has been assigned to Fort Campbell, Ky., multiple times. He most recently commanded the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade. He previously commanded Company B “Bearcats,” 1-101st Aviation Regiment, and served as a platoon leader at 3-101st Aviation Regiment. His more than 24 years in the Army includes multiple deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Cody was also assigned to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment where he served in Company B “Six Guns” as an AH-6M platoon leader and company executive officer and as the regiment plans officer. He is qualified in the OH-58A/C, AH-6M, and AH-64A/D/E. His awards include the Legion of Merit, five Bronze Star Medals and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. He holds Master’s degrees in National Security and Strategic Studies. Cody said as a child all he ever talked about was becoming an aviator, and he enjoys serving something greater than himself. “I’ve had a lot of great mentors over the years, my father being one of them. I’m a people person. I get a lot of my strength from those I surround myself with,” he said. He completed flight school and the Aviation Captains Career Course here, but said this job is his first closer look into U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command. “It’s very inspiring, to be honest, the amount of things that go on here day to day that I think most people don’t realize, the amount of flights, the amount of Soldiers training—there’s so many different courses going on, each and every day, to such a high level as well. It’s awesome to see the Center of Excellence kind of run ...and being a part of that team,” he said. As Chief of Staff he is responsible for synchronizing the staff sections within the headquarters, making sure the team is executing the commanding general’s vision. He works with the units and tenant units at Fort Novosel, as well as outlying units at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va., and Fort Huachuca, Ariz. “It has me thinking a lot more up and out,” he said. “It’s all about managing people, managing teams. We are very blessed with the talent--greensuiters, contractors, Department of the Army civilians. We’re very fortunate with the level of experience that resides here. That makes my job easy.” Welcome, Col. Cody! #ArmyAviation
