As we kick off a new year and January’s Mentorship Month, our first piece of career advice is from our director himself, Dr. Jim Kirsch: “I encourage you, and what I did in my career, is I would study my supervisor and my senior rater, and I would figure out, are they a morning person, a lunchtime person, an afternoon person – what kind of person are they – and I would find times to go just sit down and talk to them about life. What did they do early in their career? What are the things that they did to get where they are?” #WeAreAvMC | #MentorshipMatters

In 2024, the Center has continued to cultivate strong relationships with our mission partners. One such example is hosting cyber security experts across the United States Department of Defense for the Software Assurance Community of Practice meeting earlier this year. As we like to say, teamwork makes the tech work. #Partnerships | #WeAreAvMC

The Center partnered with NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Morgan State University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to design and test a 1,000 lb. rocket motor, using parts additively manufactured by our Prototype Integration Facility, with the intent of evaluating cooling chamber cooling performance. Over the course of three days, multiple successful tests were performed, giving the university teams invaluable data that will be used to further expand their academic rocketry programs. For more than five years, DEVCOM AvMC has been proud to partner with Morgan State University, supporting its efforts to promote diversity in engineering and inspire the next generation of rocket propulsion engineers. It has become tradition to offer a little holiday ditty with our annual leadership holiday photo. This year’s photo is set to the dulcet tones of “White Christmas:" -plays note on harmonica- We are dreaming of an AvMC Christmas Just like the ones we used to know Where the cubicles glistened From the Christmas light competitions And the potlucks Stretched the hallway rows We are dreaming of an AvMC Christmas With every leave request we write May your inbox be empty and due outs quick And may all your Christmases be at AvMC #MerryAvMChristmas | #Holidays2024

It is time for another AvMC History Lesson: Since 1975, the Radio Frequency Simulation System anechoic chamber has been in operation at the DEVCOM Aviation & Missile Center. It is a hardware-in-the-loop, closed-loop facility, which means that it is using the actual hardware from the missile system to test most facets of the system. For decades, the anechoic chamber has tested missile systems for not just the U.S. Department of Defense, but also its mission partners. Stay tuned as we celebrate the chamber’s golden anniversary in 2025! #WeAreAvMC | #ScienceForTheSoldier
