“We know that women face extra hurdles in the job market, but too many programs ignore this. Upwardly Global intends to lead by example. The path to equality is not paved by intentions alone but by actions, by transformative programs, and by policies that do not just aim to include but to elevate. We know that our communities are made richer by the hands of immigrant women, women of color, who bring not just their skills, but their resilience, their stories, and their hopes for a better future. Upwardly Global is setting a new standard for ourselves, changing the game not just in programs and policies, but in shifting perceptions. Culturally, women’s labor is undervalued and the investments we make in our workforce reflect that. This isn’t just about redesigning our programs or eliminating barriers in policy; it’s also about shifting how we value women.” — Jina Krause-Vilmar, President and CEO Check out Upwardly Global’s new Women’s Economic Power website to dive deep into our strategies, learn about our impact, and explore compelling videos, stories, and data that shed light on this invisible issue. https://lnkd.in/gsP5_GMa

THREE ways you can meaningfully advocate for women, starting today on International Women’s Day 💜 IWD is an internationally recognised day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. And you’ll see many posts by individuals celebrating the women in their life - which is beautiful. But there is a problem. Today is also a day where workplaces use it as a marketing strategy, or just for content without having right infrastructure in place to support, guide and include women. 💸 Female marketers working full-time are paid 16.5% LESS than their male counterparts 👩 Mothers experience a 60% drop in earnings compared to fathers in the decade following the birth of a first child 💼 Men hold 60% of manager-level positions in a typical company So here are THREE ways you can personally advocate for women today. And organisations, here are FIVE ways you can #InspireInclusion, as per INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY (MARCH 8): - Forging women's economic empowerment - Recruiting, retaining and developing diverse talent - Supporting women and girls into leadership, decision-making, business and STEM - Designing and building infrastructure meeting the needs of women and girls - Providing women and girls with access to quality education and training We all have to start somewhere. And today can be that day.

As the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) for the State of Nevada, International Women’s Day presents a moment to reflect on the critical role of women in technology and leadership within our governmental structures. This day, while a celebration of achievements, also highlights the inequities that persist, underscoring the need for a committed, actionable approach towards gender equality and inclusion. In the context of today’s celebration, I’m compelled to share some compelling research that aligns with our office's commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace. Studies, such as those by Offermann & Foley (2020) and Melero (2011), reveal that female leaders bring invaluable traits and behaviors to the workplace, enhancing organizational performance. Specifically, workplaces with a higher percentage of women in management positions tend to exhibit more rigorous employee feedback mechanisms, enhanced interpersonal communication channels, and broader participation in decision-making processes. These findings highlight the value of diversity in leadership and guide our efforts towards creating a more inclusive environment within the OCIO. It’s critical to acknowledge the ongoing challenges that women face in the workplace: Female professionals continue to earn significantly less than their male counterparts, a gap that widens for females and is further exacerbated for mothers in the decade following the birth of a 1st child. Leadership and managerial positions remain predominantly male, with a considerable disparity in representation. Here are actionable steps, inspired by the original post, to advocate for women in our workplaces and beyond: Economic Empowerment: Actively support and implement policies that ensure equal pay for equal work. Diverse Talent Development: Commit to recruiting, retaining, and developing a diverse talent pool, ensuring women have equal opportunities for career advancement. Leadership and Decision-Making: Promote women into leadership roles and decision-making positions. Inclusive Infrastructure: Design and maintain workplace infrastructures that meet the needs of all employees. Quality Education and Training: Provide access to continuous learning opportunities, allowing women to enhance their skills and advance their careers in technology, leadership, and beyond. As we observe International Women’s Day, let's renew our commitment to these principles, recognizing that our collective efforts towards gender equality and inclusion not only benefit women but enrich our entire organizational culture and the communities we serve. This is what this day is about... It's a day to share the progress we've made. It's a day to talk about the imbalances. It's a day to talk about the tangible actions we can take to change some of these stats below 👇 👩💻 Half of women who go into tech drop out by the age of 35 🔝 In the tech industry, only 52 women are promoted to manager for every 100 men (compared to 86 for all industries) ❌During the mass tech layoffs of 2022, a staggering 69% of those laid off in the industry were women. But together, we can change this. We can take steps to #inspireinclusion and shift our unconscious biases. Little changes over time can have massive results. Here's to the those who are advocating for women 💜 Happy #InternationWomensDay #IWD24

Investing in women is not only the right thing to do, but also a calculated move that will hasten the advancement of society as a whole. Entire communities prosper when women have political, social, and economic authority. Women will be major forces behind innovation, progress, and positive change if they have equal access to equal opportunities, financial resources, healthcare, and education. Studies consistently shows that financially empowered women invest in their families and communities, resulting in better health, education, and economic results for everybody. Additionally, teams that are diverse and include women tend to be more creative and productive, producing higher results in the workplace and other domains. Let's pledge to support women at all levels on this International Women's Day. We can make the world more equitable and successful for everyone by encouraging women-owned businesses, fighting for equal pay and representation, and offering mentorship and leadership opportunities. Investing in women helps everyone advance more quickly. Happy International Women's Day 🥰🥰🥰🥰 #internationalwomensday2024 #unwomeninuk #investinwomen #AccelerateProgress

💜 In our final International Women's Day highlight, we asked our Product Manager, Gisela Morinigo (Ella/She) why today's theme: invest in women - accelerate progress, was important to her. ♀️ READ: Strengthening investment in women begins with providing opportunities and platforms for alternative management styles, thereby facilitating a more inclusive approach to overseeing and developing staff—one that is focused on consensus-building and collaboration. 🚺 Women play a pivotal role in both creating and embodying different management approaches to those established as “good” or “normal” in our society. To progress as a whole, we must explore how conventional practices have contributed to perpetuating inequality, specifically in a way that marginalize women. ♀️ I seek to introduce a gender perspective in my everyday work including my management of staff, examining how expectations have come to be accepted across the workforce. 💟 Employing flexibility in management approaches will not only foster a more positive work environment but it will also embrace diversity and facilitate progress, ultimately helping organizations better meet their objectives. Let's tackle the double bind that so many talented women face in the workplace. 🌟 Often, when women leaders assert themselves, they're labeled aggressive; yet, showing empathy can be misconstrued as weakness. It's a challenging tightrope to walk, balancing assertiveness with compassion without compromising one's true self. A survey mentioned in this article found that 68% of American women have experienced double binds, most commonly in their careers but also at school, at home and on social media. The article also shares how to find your style and advocate for it.
