TechHerFest’24 came and delivered 💯, all thanks to HerTechTrail for organizing such an incredible event packed with juicy takeaways. I had the opportunity to meet some industry experts whose rich experiences I gained from. I’m particularly drawn to Tina Okonkwo’s presentation, as it resonated more with me because of its practical nature and the reality it depicts. Here are some key takeaways… —Building in public as a catalyst to leveling up in Tech. 📍Why does building in public matter? ** Visibility and credibility ** Learning and growth ** Community and network ** Live portfolio ** Industry recognition 📍Action plan ** It’s okay to Start small; you don’t have to be an expert immediately ** Set small achievable goals and see yourself doing great things ** Be consistent, every minute counts ** Engage with others 📍Facing fears and embracing vulnerability ** Share your fears and struggle with someone ** Accept criticism ** Stay motivated Choose a platform you’re most comfortable with to start building publicly. *** ~Whatever you’re doing might look laughable but put it out there, learn and grow. Don’t hesitate to put your challenges out there. You might even get criticisms, it’s all part of the process. Building in public inspires others. However, how will they know if they don’t see? 📍Imposter syndrome Sometimes, it feels like a lonely journey With no support system. It feels like making a mistake will break us, hence, we pipe down and avoid the world It feels like it cannot get better than it’s already is… News flash, imposter syndrome has come to stay. As I chat with my team about the challenges and achievements of 2024, I can’t help but feel the weight of planning for 2025 already. Reflecting on this past year, I’m grateful for how each event brought together incredible forces—passionate speakers, engaged audiences, and supportive partners who’ve helped shape our ambitions for the future. Here are some memorable numbers, along with the effort behind them: 👉 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟓𝐤 𝐦² 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞—most of it built from scratch—became hubs of connection, learning, and innovation. Along the way, we picked up new skills (and my colleagues know exactly what I mean when I mention the "crafts" behind the scenes!). 👉 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝟏𝟑𝐤 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬 walked through our doors this year. Honestly, back in 2014, this milestone felt like a dream. #sofweek2024 SOF Week is just around the corner. Make sure to plan your time wisely. Sooo much to see and do. Here are a few tips to make the most of your time. 1. Dress for very hot weather. 2. Plan ahead. Plan primary and alternate events to ensure you're not standing around. Many events are more than once a week. Put both on your calendar in case you have an impromptu opportunity. 3. Know your engagement strategy. PEO, S&T, JATF and more will have 30-60 min panels. Make sure to attend. Also, make time for those one on one engagements with PM's, engineers, requirements writer's and other stakeholders. Visit the #xTech booth! 4. Take the time to expand your network and be open to discuss, especially you govvies! Make time to answer that same question one more time. It means a lot to our industry partners. 5. Go easy on the extracurriculars!! Except the #GSOF 10th Anniversary reception. Great way to start the week. Pace yourself though, long hot days will drain you quick if you're not well rested and hydrated. Make sure to keep 12-1PM on Wednesday open for the CAPEX!!
