What does it take to build a thriving community? Last week, we explored that question with Black Cultural Zone and Richmond Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. during an UrbanPlan for Communities workshop. Participants stepped into the shoes of development teams, crafting proposals in response to a mock RFP and presenting their ideas to a mock city council. We were honored to work with these groups for the second time, a connection made possible by our Executive Board Member Nikki A. Beasley, who serves as Executive Director of Richmond Neighborhood Housing Services. A special thank you to our exceptional instructors—Jane Lin, Kevin Miles, and Luyen Pham—and our amazing volunteers: Alice An, Lynn Chock, Jason Dries-Daffner, Luis F. González, PLA, ASLA, AICP, Mitali Ganguly (AICP, LEED-ND), Hayes Shair, George Tolosa, Teron Marie McGrew, CEO, PhD Candidate, Roderick Roche, and James Suh. Your dedication and expertise were invaluable to the success of the workshop. #UrbanPlan #ULI #SanFrancisco
Absolutely love this! This work is a powerful example of how we can rethink community building and reimagine what thriving neighborhoods can look like. Initiatives like this bridge the gap between vision and action, equipping communities with tools to shape their own futures. Kudos to everyone involved in making this vision a reality. It’s inspiring to see what’s possible when expertise and local leadership come together for lasting impact.
