This is an interesting dilemma. Pull resources from public schools to fund microschools that help students who fall behind, have learning disabilities or their parents want to have more control over what they learn OR increase funding to public schools to reduce class size and boost support for students with special needs. Tough call. We've contemplated homeschooling our 5 year old daughter b/c she's an advanced reader and its gives us more freedom to teach her while traveling the world. This article gives me credence to do so. Having a micro school is also an option and it allows a teacher to give more focused attention and tutoring. What are your thoughts about these #microschools ? Like them, don't like them?

🌟 Investing in Our Future: Supporting Afterschool and Summer Learning Programs 🌟 As a lifelong advocate for youth development, I am proud to support the vital work being done to ensure that Congress prioritizes investments in our young people and their families for FY 2025. Afterschool and summer learning programs are indispensable in keeping our youth safe, engaged, and thriving—while providing working parents with the peace of mind they need. Now more than ever, we must ensure funding for programs like the 21st Century Community Learning Centers. These initiatives not only reduce long waitlists but also equip young people with the skills and resources needed to succeed in both school and life. With growing concerns around mental health and learning recovery, these programs are essential to ensuring every child has the opportunity to flourish. I have also championed increased funding for the Child Care Development Fund and AmeriCorps—two key pillars that empower communities and contribute to the overall well-being of our nation. Let’s continue advocating for the investments that our youth deserve. Together, we can create a future where every child has access to high-quality programs that lead to lifelong success. #AfterschoolWorks #SupportOurYouth #EducationMatters #CommunityImpact https://lnkd.in/e7WVKsmM

As a parent/educator, have you ever felt the challenge of finding engaging, values-driven stories that truly resonate with children, especially when it comes to faith-based topics? There’s so much potential for stories to teach kindness, courage, and empathy—but finding meaningful, faith-centered content that’s engaging for kids has been difficult. Raising children in this era has highlighted how important these moments are. Life has sped up, and with the pressures of technology, it’s easy to feel disconnected. We wanted something simple yet impactful to keep our families connected to our values and faith. That’s when we saw an opportunity: if these stories didn’t exist, we would create them. With the rise of GenAI tools, we were inspired to use technology purposefully. Luqman Tales was born from a vision to bring timeless values to life through beautifully illustrated stories that engage children and make storytelling accessible for today’s families. With Luqman Tales, we hope to foster a community of parents and educators who can access, share, and enjoy stories that instill values across generations. Together, we’re creating more than just stories—we’re nurturing a legacy of wisdom, faith, and connection. To celebrate our upcoming launch, we’re giving away a free story sampler! 🎉 Grab yours here and experience Luqman Tales firsthand: https://lnkd.in/eqJAxrfm

Every one has a role to play in bringing quality education to the children and highlighted below are three categories and the HOW’s. 1. Parents and Guardians as Supporters: Parents are critical in fostering an environment that values education. By being involved in their children’s learning, supporting their homework, attending school events, and encouraging a love for reading and learning which can greatly boost educational outcomes. 2. Teachers as Educators and Mentors: Teachers shape children’s educational experiences directly. Through engaging lesson plans, constructive feedback, and creating a positive learning environment, teachers ensure students not only understand but enjoy learning, setting a foundation for lifelong education. The teachers are the spice of the soup! 😉 3. Community Members and Leaders as Advocates: Community members, including local leaders and organizations, can advocate for resources, funding, and policies that improve schools. By volunteering, fundraising, or partnering with schools, they contribute to a supportive ecosystem that prioritizes education quality. It takes a village to nurture and grow a child to adulthood. Every role either at home, in the classroom, or within the community, is essential for nurturing a supportive educational environment. The question for the weekend is: What are YOU doing to ensure quality education is available to the children around you? Happy Weekend! #talentmineacademy #friday #tgif #qualityeducation

Giving Tuesday is one week away! ❤️ Investing in quality child care is an investment in the future of our children, families, and communities. When children have access to high-quality early education, they enter school ready to learn, are more likely to graduate, and are better equipped with the skills they need to succeed. Families with access to reliable child care can join the workforce, pursue higher education, and contribute to the local economy. It’s Christmas Day, and while the world slows down to unwrap gifts and share meals, I can’t help but think about the gift every child deserves: the opportunity to dream bigger than their circumstances. This time of year, I think about the kids whose classrooms are their refuge. The teachers who become their champions. The administrators trying to stretch budgets further than seems possible. And the communities working tirelessly to hold it all together. Education is a long game, and like the best gifts, its impact isn’t always immediate. It’s the quiet encouragement, the second chances, and the belief that every child deserves to learn and thrive—no matter their zip code, their background, or their challenges. So today, as you enjoy the sparkle of the season, take a moment to imagine the future we could build together. A future where every child finds their voice. A future where every teacher feels supported. A future where education stops being a battleground and becomes the foundation for something extraordinary. Merry Christmas to all the educators, students, and families out there. Your work, your dreams, and your resilience are gifts that change the world. #MerryChristmas #K12Education #EveryChildEveryChance

A special thank you to those who joined me for Monday's forum: Education Under Threat: A Forum on the Future of Public Education, Charter Funding, and Special Needs Protections. Four take aways if you couldn't make it. #1 Don't panic! It's all going to be ok. Take a breath. Know that at this moment you still have options. #2. Know your numbers. Educate yourself on what state and federal funding actually is allocated to your school system. Know how your testing scores and your school's educational curriculum stacks up with other schools in your region. #3. Forge a good relationship with your child's teachers and administrators at your school. Get involved. Be willing to volunteer time if possible. I know I did on a weekend with my son's band event. Even something small is better than nothing. Let folks at the school get to know you. #4. Connect with other parents. If we all work togther, it will be a better community and better for your child.#educationmatters #estherdillard #DepartmentOfEducation
