It’s Christmas Day, and while the world slows down to unwrap gifts and share meals, I can’t help but think about the gift every child deserves: the opportunity to dream bigger than their circumstances. This time of year, I think about the kids whose classrooms are their refuge. The teachers who become their champions. The administrators trying to stretch budgets further than seems possible. And the communities working tirelessly to hold it all together. Education is a long game, and like the best gifts, its impact isn’t always immediate. It’s the quiet encouragement, the second chances, and the belief that every child deserves to learn and thrive—no matter their zip code, their background, or their challenges. So today, as you enjoy the sparkle of the season, take a moment to imagine the future we could build together. A future where every child finds their voice. A future where every teacher feels supported. A future where education stops being a battleground and becomes the foundation for something extraordinary. Merry Christmas to all the educators, students, and families out there. Your work, your dreams, and your resilience are gifts that change the world. #MerryChristmas #K12Education #EveryChildEveryChance

Giving Tuesday is one week away! ❤️ Investing in quality child care is an investment in the future of our children, families, and communities. When children have access to high-quality early education, they enter school ready to learn, are more likely to graduate, and are better equipped with the skills they need to succeed. Families with access to reliable child care can join the workforce, pursue higher education, and contribute to the local economy. ➡ ATTENTION: For Leon, Madison and Jefferson counties: https://lnkd.in/gVP4Usts We talk about investing for the future. Oct 22-24 gives you that chance by volunteering 30 minutes of your time, reading to children 0-3 years old from at-risk families we serve in the Big Bend. Did you know that by age three, a child's brain is twice as active as an adults and 85% of the development is in place? That matters to businesses because without sufficient literacy skills we lose so much talent - 16% of America's high school graduates read below a 5th grade level. Shared reading is an excellent way to help build the basis of literacy. While a 3 year old may not verbalize their reaction, a person from outside their classroom, taking time to read to them is exciting! Excitement leads to curiosity and imagination - meanwhile those very active brains make connections about the importance of reading. Imagine a couple of decades from now that one of the children in your group has become a key employee - and takes the afternoon to volunteer for a similar event. That's why your 30 minutes of reading can make a difference for a lifetime. These children have so much potential, and with a strong foundation of literacy, more doors of opportunity will open in their future. Reserve your session now! https://lnkd.in/gVP4Usts

A special thank you to those who joined me for Monday's forum: Education Under Threat: A Forum on the Future of Public Education, Charter Funding, and Special Needs Protections. Four take aways if you couldn't make it. #1 Don't panic! It's all going to be ok. Take a breath. Know that at this moment you still have options. #2. Know your numbers. Educate yourself on what state and federal funding actually is allocated to your school system. Know how your testing scores and your school's educational curriculum stacks up with other schools in your region. #3. Forge a good relationship with your child's teachers and administrators at your school. Get involved. Be willing to volunteer time if possible. I know I did on a weekend with my son's band event. Even something small is better than nothing. Let folks at the school get to know you. #4. Connect with other parents. If we all work togther, it will be a better community and better for your child.#educationmatters #estherdillard #DepartmentOfEducation
