Following on from my last post, as Roblox just shared its latest update... introducing even more updates to enhance safety and provide better tools for parents. Key highlights include: 🔗 Linked Parent-Child Accounts: Parents can now link their accounts to their child’s, giving them direct control over screen time, spending limits, and content access. 🙊 Enhanced Communication Restrictions: Users under 13 are no longer able to message outside of experiences, with parental permissions required for in-experience chats by 2025. 🤬 New Content Labeling System: A clearer system categorizes content into labels like "Minimal," "Moderate," and "Restricted," ensuring younger users only see what’s appropriate for their age. 👨👧 Improved Parental Tools: New updates make it easier for parents to manage settings and understand safety features, providing greater transparency and control. These updates continue to build on Roblox’s efforts to make the platform safer, more accessible, and more transparent for families. And in early 2025, kids under 13 will need parental permission to chat even within experiences. As a parent of two young boys, one of whom just started playing Roblox with me this month, I know how exciting and creative this platform can be. But I also know how important it is to feel confident that they’re exploring a safe, age-appropriate space. These updates build on recent steps Roblox has taken to protect younger users, like: > Restricting access to “Social Hangouts” and “Free-form User Creation” for users under 13 starting this month. > Requiring all experiences to be rated by December 3 so that younger players only see content suitable for their age. > Setting stricter content standards for thumbnails, titles, and descriptions from 2025 onwards to ensure they meet “All Ages” or “9+” guidelines. As a parent, I’m reassured by these changes. As a developer, I’m inspired to think more carefully about the experiences I’m creating and how they can contribute to a safer platform for all players. If your target audience doesn't exist on Roblox, make it yourself. That's what Dress to Impress did! The 17+ female demographic wasn't too populated on Roblox before DTI. It's a symptom of Roblox's early days, when few people knew about it. DTI was able to bring in this new audience through content that left the "Roblox sphere"- meaning content about the game reached non-Roblox audiences. This was through regular people making IRL videos of them acting out the game. As a result, Roblox will see massive growth in its MAU and CCU over the next 6 months, as a DIRECT RESULT of DTI literally creating a new audience on the platform. ⛪ Watching a traditional Roman Catholic Mass on Roblox? 😂 This is one of the most fun/interesting things I've seen in a while - and it has A LOT to teach us: I just had to share this today. This funny video kinda brought a couple of thoughts in my head. First, if you're not succeeding in Roblox, it's probably because you don't get it. The moment you can put a traditional Roman Catholic Mass on Roblox and it gets full of players.. It basically means you could do anything there. Not to mention they're monetizing this via TikTok at the same time! Second, this is not the first time I see something that is "weird" but in a fun way. And this translates to attention and impact. A while ago, I got in touch with the creator behind the "Roblox Cup", which is a league of many soccer matches happening in the game. The Roblox Cup is so successful in LATAM that some bars in Argentina play their games on the TVs. lol I'm not sure if the goal of the Roblox mass was to evangelize young players.. But if it was - this is a innovative as gets. Kudos to the catholic church I guess. 😂 Anyway, worth spending time diving into activations such as this one. You learn more than by playing branded games that are hype right now.
