If you and your leadership team were facing a challenge where would you seek help to solve it? Would you look for help through organisational design (OD) or a business coach? The answer may depend upon whether your organisation is large or at SME level. Typically OD is considered a ‘corporate’ activity; in reality it’s for every single organisation regardless of size or sector. Take a look at one of our recent blogs here: https://lnkd.in/eSqhngBY

Imagine this: you're halfway through a design sprint, ideas are flowing, and then suddenly, the momentum stalls. Why? Because not every participant feels heard. 🔍 A common challenge in design sprints or any other workshop is ensuring inclusivity and active participation from all attendees. It's a fine balance between guiding the conversation and allowing free-form creativity. 💡 One approach I've found incredibly effective is the silent brainstorming method. It levels the playing field by giving introverts and extroverts equal opportunity to contribute without the pressure of speaking up in a crowded room. 👥 As facilitators, our role is to unlock potential in every participant. By introducing structures that encourage silent yet collaborative contribution, we can mine for gold in the quiet corners of our teams. Let's champion environments where every voice can be heard without saying a word. 🚀 Have you tried silent brainstorming in your design sprints or workshops? I'd love to hear about your experiences - the good, the bad, and the innovative. Let's start a conversation - drop your thoughts in the comments! 👇 And hey, if you found this post valuable, don't hesitate to hit like, share or follow for more insights. 🙌 #DesignThinking #Innovation #Collaboration #WorkshopFacilitation #Leadership #FacilitationSkills #TeamDynamics #BrainstormingTechniques #Inclusivity

“You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.” — Plato We all have our personal team meeting stories. Those where you had an opportunity to contribute to the organizational goal and you leave feeling valued and more connected to your colleagues. There are meetings full of chatter and no progress. And there are the “other” meetings where a select few dominate the conversation and you leave feeling disconnected and sometimes deflated. In my work as a facilitator, the Lego Serious Play method has been one of the most effective facilitation strategies to use with social impact leaders looking to cultivate a collaborative team culture of shared understanding and connection. Critical elements that support design thinking processes and creative problem solving. Do a workshop for: 1. Making Decisions ↳ Working "together alone" = easy decisions 2. Solving Problems ↳ There's a workshop for almost any challenge. 3. Team Building Events ↳ Into "workations"? A workshop, definitely. 4. Leadership Retreats ↳ Rest + Productivity + Focus = Success 5. Planning Strategies ↳ Every step counts. 6. Scoping Projects ↳ Make sure everyone is on the same page. 7. Prioritizing Ideas ↳ Don't let anything important be left out. Don't do a workshop for: → Straightforward things → Not-so-important issues → Individual meetings (e.g., 1-on-1s) → With too many people and no co-facilitator Now you know. Yesterday I launched Effective Brainstorming: Leading Team Problem Solving for Harvard managers! Here are some high-level takeaways: 💡 Design and facilitation of a brainstorm have huge impacts on its effectiveness. 💡 Leveraging online tools can improve productivity and enhance the overall experience. 💡 Using brainstorming exercises can fuel creativity and guide ideation. 💡 Brainstorming is part of a larger problem-solving process that can help frame the exercise and lead to actionable next steps. Another session of this class will be delivered in spring if you are a manager at Harvard interested in registering. Stay tuned for that delivery date! Thank you to all the #HarvardManagers who participated and made it a great session!
