The article covers how the presidential campaigns have focused on #influencers instead of just bib media. Key quote: "This new fragmented reality is the future — not just of elections, but also for how America learns about business, products, technology, culture and current events." Businesses of all sizes, and their marketers, need to be aware of this shift. #creatoreconomy

Social media is still a gateway for young people to access the news. 🤳 Younger users tend to pay more attention to influencers than journalists or media companies for news, including a new generation of news creators on platforms like TikTok and YouTube in France, the UK and the US. 30 leading #European news publishers on TikTok in 2024 The top 5 hasn’t changed much overall, with the #BBC, #SkyNews and #Brut remaining the biggest #news outlets on #TikTok. They have also grown considerably, often by 50% to 90%. The BBC’s main account showed slower growth, but the BBC News account grew by an impressive 300%. ".....Our ranking focuses only on #newspublishers, but #TikTok has also seen the rise of individual #journalist- #influencers. We didn’t include them in the ranking, but they represent an important trend in today’s media ecosystem. " https://lnkd.in/eTXXuqk3

New study by Eva Mayerhöffer, Jakob Bæk Kristensen, and Tim Ramsland shows the dissemination of different types of “alternative news” on social media platforms can help us to identify new types of digital spaces and actors that are of increasing importance to both news diffusion and to the formation of counterpublics in a digital age. In a Scandinavian context, the study shows that alternative news media content plays a more important role for anti-mainstream oriented digital influencers and publics in Sweden than in Denmark. "Our study shows the importance of studying the role of alternative news in fostering new forms of how news are being curated and distributed on digital platforms", says Eva Mayerhöffer Read the article “Curators of digital counterpublics: Mapping alternative news environments in Sweden and Denmark “: https://lnkd.in/d3nbqTKb #OpenAccess #mediaresearch #Denmark #Sweden #news #socialmedia 📸 Adobe Stock

LinkedIn: The Land of Digital Pretenders When I first joined LinkedIn, I thought it was a platform for genuine connections. Turns out, it’s a playground for digital pretenders. Everyone’s an "expert" without experience, constantly flexing their perfectly curated lives. The hustle is real, but not the authenticity. It’s a race to keep up with "influencers" who pretend to have all the answers but are just chasing clout. People would rather hit “connect” than actually connect. Newsflash: the true value on LinkedIn is in building relationships, not collecting followers. Time to stop pretending and start being real. #LinkedInTruth #DigitalPretenders #RealConnections

Beware the rise of the infobros! It’s official, blokey podcasters like Joe Rogan and countless TikTok talking heads are rapidly becoming the number one news source for under-30s. And that’s got to be bad news for those of us who care about accurate, well-sourced stories. “Two-thirds of online news influencers are men — and most have never worked for a news organisation,” warns the NiemannLab. The warning comes on the heels of a new study of 500 news influencers by the Pew Research Center. What are the reasons for this exodus from the mainstream media? * 65% say these influencers help them better understand current events * More than 70% say “at least it’s different” While the research focuses on the US, the same applies whether you’re in Washington, London, or Paris. This is a wake-up call to trusted news organisations worldwide. 1) Get to know your readers 2) Find stories that matter to THEM 3) Tell those stories with clarity 4) Don’t talk down to people, or lecture them 5) And don’t be boring The Red Tops and mass market media are failing hardest and fastest. While some heavyweight titles thrive online, ordinary working people are less well served. Scrap the crappy clickbait and rehashed social media dross to concentrate on breaking important stories. Otherwise, we’re in danger of information apartheid. That’s not just bad for news bores like me, it’s a disaster for democracy. #JournalismMatters #InfoBros #disinformation
