We all know that retaining seasonal team members can be a challenge - especially if our businesses won't allow them to work over holiday breaks! Now is a great time to come up with an intentional plan to keep them connected to you and your organization to help improve 2025 retention! **Keep in touch! Create a monthly newsletter, plan in-person or virtual social events, or create social media groups. Share updates, post pictures and memories, and recognize your team for their accomplishments or create events to attend their sporting, drama or music performances together as a team. **Keep them engaged with the organization by sharing information about special events - great for something to do but also a great way to get volunteer hours if needed! ** Hold off-season feedback meetings - let them share their ideas or give input on Summer training schedules and more. **Create a mentorship program. Whether it's for their continued work with your organization or by helping introduce them to professionals in their desired field, make yourself a resource for continued growth. **Keep them informed about Summer 2025. Let them know about early application or hiring events, share recertification and other training dates, and get them on board early! What ideas have you used to keep your seasonal team engaged?

Getting involved in part-time jobs or co-curricular activities plays a crucial role in helping individuals develop essential life skills that prepare them for future careers. These experiences teach valuable lessons beyond the classroom, such as time management, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills. Engaging in part-time work exposes individuals to real-world challenges, allowing them to learn responsibility, adapt to different situations, and gain practical knowledge about various industries. Similarly, co-curricular activities like clubs, sports, or volunteer work foster leadership, collaboration, and creativity. These activities encourage initiative and provide opportunities to network and build relationships, which are vital in professional settings. Ultimately, both part-time jobs and co-curricular involvement help individuals develop a well-rounded skill set that makes them more adaptable, confident, and prepared for future job roles, enabling them to thrive in their careers.

Life offers a wealth of experiences that translate seamlessly into valuable skills for the workplace. From handling toddler tantrums to orchestrating last-minute get-togethers with friends, we often draw on these abilities without even realizing it. The ability to stay calm under pressure, juggle multiple responsibilities, and solve unexpected challenges—do these situations sound familiar? Whether it's navigating parenthood, pursuing personal projects, or efficiently managing a busy schedule, these encounters hone our problem-solving skills and task completion capabilities. Surprisingly, some of the most critical assets for a successful career don't come from formal education but from the everyday unpredictability of life. The real question now becomes: How can you leverage these inherent skills to elevate your professional growth and set yourself apart in your professional sphere?

As professionals, we work hard year-round to achieve our goals. But summer brings with it a unique opportunity to recharge, embrace the great outdoors, and have some well-deserved fun. Here are a few ideas to make the most out of this sunny season while still maintaining a professional edge:1️⃣ Networking Events with a Twist: Instead of just attending regular networking events, why not mix business with pleasure? Seek out industry-specific events that incorporate fun summer activities like outdoor happy hours, beach volleyball tournaments, or BBQ cook-offs. Not only will you make valuable connections, but you'll also enjoy a refreshing change of scenery.2️⃣ Take Your Meetings Outdoors: Ditch the traditional conference room and opt for alfresco meetings. Suggest meeting at a local park, rooftop terrace, or even by the waterfront, allowing for a more relaxed and creative atmosphere. Enjoy nature's beauty, while still accomplishing your business objectives.3️⃣ Fitness Challenges: Summer is the perfect time to set fitness goals and challenge your professional peers to join in. Organize a company-wide fitness challenge or form teams for local community races or sports tournaments. Not only will you promote a healthy work-life balance, but you'll also foster teamwork and camaraderie among colleagues.4️⃣ Academic Enrichment: Use the slower pace of summer to enhance your professional skills or pursue a new hobby. Enroll in a short online course, attend a workshop or conference, or learn a new language. Skill-building during this season ensures you return to work refreshed and armed with new knowledge to propel your career forward.5️⃣ Volunteer Opportunities: Dedicate some of your free time to make a positive impact on your community. Look for volunteer opportunities that align with your skills or interests. Whether it's mentoring young professionals, contributing to environmental causes, or supporting local charities, you'll not only give back but also gain a sense of fulfillment.Remember, while summer can be a time for relaxation and recreation, it's also a chance to maintain your professional growth and network. By blending fun activities with your career aspirations, you can enjoy the best of both worlds. So, make this summer count and create memories that will energize you throughout the year! 🌞💼#SummerFun #ProfessionalGrowth #Networking #VolunteerWork

I find myself taking advantage of the summer lull to engage in some reinvigoration and reinvention. 💥 I am rereading Priya Parker's The Art of Gathering and thinking about the notion of closing the doors in my meetings - tending to the best experience for the participants by being clear about who should not be there (counterintuitive, I know, but in certain situations the wide arms of inclusivity don't yield the best experience). 💥 I am doing a deep dive with our team on thinking clearly about our firm's unique value in the market and what makes us different. 💥 I am brushing up my ToP (Technology of Participation) skills, planning for a team retreat, a client retreat in the fall, and even a retreat with a friend group! I love summer learning and reinvigoration! #theartofgathering #topfacilitation #uniquevalue

🧩Not every work experience ends up (or belongs!) on LinkedIn or your resume, but each experience shapes you and serves as a tile in your talent mosaic (even now). 🧩 Here are some of my “missing” talent tiles from the past; I’d love to hear about yours in the comments! 🥇BEST: I worked at a regionally-renown summer stock theatre in my seaside hometown for a few summers, selling merch and serving as an usher for shows all summer long. The merchandise cart was in the middle of a stunning, lush garden courtyard, and I saw every show for free, multiple times. The work was easy peasy, my colleagues were delightful, and the fringe perks enviable. I got a lot of high school summer reading (…half from the assigned books, half from Cliff’s Notes 🤷🏻♀️) and tanning done on those shifts. This job had big Saved by the Bell gang working at Malibu Sands Beach Club vibes 😎 💡Lesson Learned: Sometimes, it’s not about the actual work, but rather the people, the perks, and the experience. Enjoy it where you can! 💩WORST: Throughout high school and college, I worked in a laundromat on a college campus. When people talk about how great it is that you can “just drop your laundry off for someone else to do,” I wince: I was that someone, doing the laundry in an un-air conditioned (read: hotter than Hades) dirty environment. It was absolutely awful work. When whole fraternities dropped off their laundry, I died on the inside…the things I’ve seen (and experienced with other senses)…😖 💡Lesson Learned: I can crisply fold a fitted bedsheet of any size (California King? Bring it on 💪🏻) in my sleep. Hey, to be fair, I didn’t say all the stories represented transferrable skills 😉 But I know that I need a positive environment with colleagues I enjoy, and that I need to know up front that tasks I deem as "drudgery" (fraternity house laundry, for one) don't form the vast majority of my tasks.
