St Austell Brewery 𝘂𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗶𝗹𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝘁 𝗜𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲: 🍻 🎅 St Austell Brewery has announced a multimillion-pound investment for The Pedn Olva in St Ives, Cornwall. The pub with rooms will undergo a complete transformation, with its public areas, reception space, restaurant, pub and 26 bedrooms given an overhaul. The property will close in January before reopening in its new guise in early summer. A new, larger dining space will more than double the pub’s capacity. To the back of the hotel, overlooking the bay, long bifold doors will open onto a new terrace area, which will sit over 40 guests. On the west side of the building, a new rooftop terrace will feature decking and coastal planters. The transformation scheme also includes the reimagining of the site’s 26 bedrooms. Kevin Georgel, chief executive of St Austell Brewery, said: “This multimillion-pound transformation is designed to redefine the guest experience at one of our most iconic sites and create a space for the Pedn Olva where innovative design harnesses its unparalleled location. Our aspiration is to create a warm and welcoming pub atmosphere, year-round.” The Pedn Olva has been part of St Austell Brewery’s managed estate – which includes 46 pubs and hotels across the south west – for the past 25 years.

Could Toronto's Port Lands function like a wetland? Along with our sister company Atelier Ten, our B+H Biomimicry group is now working alongside Waterfront Toronto to contribute to the McCleary District Sustainability Plan, pushing their priority areas through the lens of biomimicry. This lens invites us to look at the original function of this area, pre-industrialization, to understand what the land naturally wants to do, will support us in doing, and will permit us to do. We will then use this knowledge to guide our design recommendations for the McCleary district to see if we can go beyond the idea of "doing less harm" to explore how we can contribute to that land's natural trajectory and function, all while creating an exciting district for life, work, and play. Throwback Thursday! Looking back at one of our most challenging installations—Patrick McGovern's two-level patio. Initially, we assumed the retractable roof would cover either the top or bottom patio. However, the client wanted a roof to span both levels and connect two separate buildings. On top of that, he requested an electric opening system—something we hadn’t yet developed at the time. And the deadline? Before St. Patrick’s Day, the pub's biggest event of the year. Despite these challenges, we delivered. The structure was completed on time, though the roof was manually operated for that first event in 2013. This project highlights our commitment to innovation and adaptability.
