As we edge closer to the festive season, the buzz is definitely building. The shops are fully stocked with mince pies (yes, I still miss the proper UK ones), holiday playlists are on repeat, and it’s getting harder to ignore the twinkle of lights everywhere you go. It’s also that time when work seems to speed up before it slows down. Final placements, end-of-year goals, and last-minute pushes to finish the year strong are all part of the December chaos. And for those of us in recruitment, you know it’s a balance between closing deals and prepping for January – one eye on the finish line and the other on what’s ahead. For me, this time of year is a great reminder to pause, take stock of the wins (big or small), and give credit where it’s due. Whether you’re smashing records, quietly grinding, or just keeping everything ticking along, it all counts. Let’s keep pushing, celebrate the little victories, and enjoy the festive buildup. And if you’ve already finished your Christmas shopping… teach me your ways. Cheers to the season!

Super good piece in todays Financial Times by Eri Sugiura “Pubs embrace festive boost ahead of tough new year” Christmas bookings for UK pubs and bars have surged, driven by a rise in office parties and family gatherings. Greene King reported festive bookings up 12% year-on-year and above pre-pandemic levels, with strong growth on Christmas and Boxing Day. Mitchells & Butlers saw bookings rise 9%, while Young’s reported a 30% increase. Despite this seasonal uplift, the sector faces severe challenges in 2025, including rising costs from increased national insurance contributions, minimum wage hikes, and reduced rate relief, potentially leading to closures. The Campaign for Real Ale projects 1,200 pub closures this year, up from 1,000 in 2023. Operators like Fuller’s and Admiral Taverns are cutting investment and reducing operations to cope. To counter rising costs, price hikes of up to 8% are anticipated, with the average pint now £4.80, a 30% increase since before the pandemic. Pubs are also adapting to trends like premium beer sales and rising demand for low- and no-alcohol options, which grew significantly this year. While December footfall is expected to rise 10%, offering a short-term boost, many publicans remain concerned about the long-term outlook for the industry. https://on.ft.com/49T8zFC #TheCPGGeek #IBMRetail #IBMConsumer #FMCG #ConsumerGoods #Luxury #Fashion #Retail #Proud #RethinkRetailTopExpert #NRFRetailVoice RETHINK Retail #RethinkRetail National Retail Federation #NRF

📣 Christmas Cheer, Cautious Spending 🎅 🎄 📈 The UK hospitality industry is gearing up for a busy Christmas season, with footfall expected to surge 3% compared to last year. 📊 While more people are planning to dine out this festive season, consumer spending intentions remain cautious. According to the survey that was conducted by Meaningful Vision Ltd Vision in November 2024, sampling over 2,000 UK respondents, a remarkable 85% of consumers plan to spend on food and beverages out-of-home, but 80% of respondents said they plan to spend the same or less than last year. This shift in consumer behaviour could lead to lower average spend per customer. Meaningful Vision Ltd CEO Maria Vanifatova shares her insights with the Propel Info Hospitality audience. https://lnkd.in/dffYi-SH
Christmas footfall is set to soar but rising costs and cautious spending are still casting a shadow, according to the new data from market intelligence platform Meaningful Vision Ltd. Its survey of 2,000 UK respondents indicates this festive season is set to be its busiest since 2019, with a projected 3% uplift in footfall to restaurants and bars this December compared with 2023. However, despite the predicted rise in visitor numbers, revenue growth is questionable as 80% of consumers plan to spend the same or less than last year. 👉 For the full version of this story and to read it first sign up to the Propel email newsletter for free: https://lnkd.in/eyy_THzR

Christmas is a busy period for many industries, but none more so than Food Manufacturing. Last year, one of the UK’s leading sandwich producers faced the typical pressures: Surging orders, tight deadlines and the need to keep everything running like clockwork. But instead of stress and chaos, Christmas was different for them this time. Why? Mezze took care of the heavy lifting by automating and simplifying their customer ordering process. This helped them avoid the usual headaches — managing complex orders, preventing errors and reducing the pressure on their team. The result? A smoother, more financially successful Christmas period, free from the usual stress and panic of the festive rush. We’re proud to have made such a positive impact and look forward to helping more businesses thrive during their busiest seasons. #FoodManufacturing #ChristmasEfficiency #CustomerSuccess #Mezze

At the time I lived on $1600 a month. Here are 7 ways I managed my budget: 1. No new clothes: ↳ I avoided spending money on new outfits and made do with what I had. 2. No dining out: ↳ I cooked all my meals at home, saving a lot on restaurant bills. 3. No going out: ↳ I skipped social outings that required spending money. 4. No parties: ↳ I stayed in and found free ways to entertain myself. 5. Meal-prepping: ↳ I planned and prepared all my food for the week ahead. 6. Shopping at Costco: ↳ I bought food in bulk to save more money. 7. Gas for the car: ↳ I only bought gas, cutting down on unnecessary travel. One key takeaway: Living on a strict budget requires discipline and careful planning. The more mindful you are about your spending, The more you can save and make the most out of a limited income. #ShopDirect #DTCBrand #DirectToConsumer #ShopWithUs #ExclusiveDeals #TikTokShopUSA #UKShopping #SpainShopping #TikTokShopEurope #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt #TikTokShopFinds #ShopSmallBusiness #OnlineShoppingAddict #TikTokShopping #eCommerceHacks #TikTokBusiness #TrendingProducts
