Do you know how to breathe when you’re lifting something heavy? And that simply breathing in and out at the right time can significantly reduce the risk of injury? Here’s how – 1. Inhale through your nose: Before you start to lift, take a deep breath in through your nose. Engage your diaphragm to ensure you get air right down into your stomach, then 2. Exhale through your mouth: Breathe out completely through your mouth during the lift. Remember to focus on expanding your stomach (rather than your chest) every time you breathe. This stabilises your spine and core, which is essential when lifting. Learn more about Breathing for Power at First Move's Manual Handling workshop, as well as other key techniques such as “Pinky Power” and “Thumbs Up”. How to get started with stretching: 1. Figure out a simple stretching routine you can do 2. Determine where you have the space to do it 3. Decide when you can consistently make the time 4. Schedule it in and stick with it Congrats. If you stick with it, your body will gradually become more flexible, mobile, and pain free. P.S. This works for anyone, no matter how tight you are. Everyone starts somewhere, and there are stretches that can be adapted to anyone’s body.

(Most of your injury risks are attributed to improper warm-ups this doesn't mean you need to spend an hour stretching, but a few key moves are essential! you need to incorporate: -Dynamic stretches to prepare your muscles for activity -Joint mobility drills to enhance range of motion -Gradual increases in intensity to ease into the workout -Targeted movements specific to your training routine Prioritizing a proper warm-up will protect your body and elevate your performance! :)
