Like so many of you, our team at SAMUELS DONEGAN are busy…so very, very busy. I read this quote the other day "what you put up with, you end up with.” Our team LOVES being accessible to everyone. We are givers, not takers. Givers often sacrifice themselves to help other people but they can also suffer along the way from this because they lack boundaries. We promote a culture of generosity and keep self-serving our team and customers. However, our team’s time can only be stretched so far... I think some people are just the type who like to get as much as they can out of situations and resources, and that's not necessarily an inherently bad thing. However, awareness of these differences and patterns of how they show up in people can be helpful in drawing boundaries that are different for individuals in your life. To protect the "givers" of the world from burnout and make it okay for them to be ambitious in pursuing their endless list of actions as well as trying to help other people, we need to be more considerate of other people’s time. Being able to communicate effectively is one of the most essential skills anyone can possess. So, before you reach out to my team via email, DMs or incessantly call them, do these things so they can respond more swiftly to you: 👉 Provide them with context 👉 Ace the subject line 👉 Keep it brief and concise 👉 Be upfront with your ask 👉 Tell them why they need to drop everything for you (why is it important) We’re in an industry that requires stacks of communication between each other, our clients and our candidates. We are humans. We act like humans, think like humans, talk like humans and hire humans. It’s important that we’re all speaking the same language and being respectful of everyone's time. 🚀 After an exhilarating first week at Antler, we've gained deep insights into forming a robust founding team 🤜🏻🤛🏻 🔍 In my own research, I stumbled upon a fascinating concept widely known as the "Secretary Problem." It offers a strategic approach to making optimal choices, very much applicable to choosing co-founders! Here’s a simple breakdown: 📊 Step 1: Evaluate the first 37% of potential co-founders to set benchmarks for essential skills and qualities. 🌟 Step 2: Continue assessing candidates individually. Choose the first one who exceeds all previous benchmarks in critical attributes. This is theory. In the reality, I think we should consider a lot of other things. The magic number here is 37, there are the many interesting things about this number, you can explore this in the video under comment section.

Walking the high-wire of career change... here's my circus story ... Over a decade ago, a usual Friday morning was about to be anything but. Geared up for attending another company all-hands session, waiting at the crosswalk by myself, suddenly I hear a voice next to me ask me if I am headed to the all-hands. I look and see the COO of my company - he was months into his new role and was the keynoter at the event. I nodded and he asked me since there were 2 min before we got the crosswalk green - AMA! Caught off-guard, yet I saw this as a chance. I asked, "Where do you get your conviction from as you navigate the company through transformative changes?" He simply asked me if I'd ever watched trapeze artists. Confused yet intrigued, I heard him out. He made an analogy that still echoes - leaders are much like trapeze artists. We have to gather momentum and, at the right time, release from one bar, fly blind, adjust mid-air, and then grab the next one. Those who fail can't let go of the old. And you can't grab the new unless you are willing to let go and fly blind with faith, confidence and adaptability! That conversation still resonates, combining Stephen's wisdom with my affection for my fav bear Winnie-the-Pooh. "I always get to where I'm going by walking away from where I've been". Yes, it took years for me to take that scary leap. But when I did, well it was off the familiar ladder of PM, Sr PM, Dir, VP, SVP, soaring in the uncharted skyline, making adjustments, and finally landing on the StandOutIn90Sec ladder. That chance conversation marked a pivotal point in my journey. I'm curious, what's your high-wire career leap story?
