🎯 Shoutout to the team @ Pilot.com – after we saw the chaotic shutdown Bench had and how they abandoned their customers right before year-end, our experience with the Pilot team has been a dream. 🙌 The platform is intuitive, onboarding was seamless, the team is deeply tenured, and their Founders Waseem Daher and Jessica McKellar are experienced with operating successful stable companies and are genuinely invested in your company's success. Using Pilot.com was easily one of the best decisions we made. Check them out!

  • If you have a business issue or a question because of this incident at Bench, email bench-help@pilot.com or text 415-745-9971. Doesn’t matter what the question is, or whether you’re intending to be a Pilot customer, we’ll do our best to help out.

It's now official: Bench has been acquired by Employer. When you log in, you have two options: 1. Consent to the new terms and continue to get access to Bench, OR 2. Opt out, get your data, and have the account be shut down immediately, with no refund. I haven't reviewed the privacy policy in detail, but if I were a Bench customer, here's what I would do: 1. Consent to the agreement so that you keep access to Bench's system 2. Log in and export your data 3. Claim the Pilot promo (where we'll migrate you to QBO for free and do your books through Jun 2025 or the length of your Bench prepayment, whichever is longer) 4. After your export is complete, cancel your ongoing Bench subscription so you don't get charged again That way you avoid the go-forward dependence on Bench, but you have a little more breathing room (until your last prepayment runs out) to access the platform—just in case. Yesterday, Bench shut down their platform, effective immediately. All customers need to make a new accounting + tax plan. This is a rough surprise to receive during the holidays. My top priority is making sure that folks get the support they need to make sure their own operations aren’t disrupted at all: making sure you can cover payroll and vendor payments, budgeting for the new year, and preparing for upcoming tax deadlines. So, a few things: #1: If you have a business issue or question because of this shutdown, DM me or check the link below to schedule time with the team. Doesn’t matter what the question is, or whether you’re intending to be a Pilot customer, we’ll do our best to help out. #2: Some key deadlines to make sure you have a plan for: • January 31, 2025: 1099s due • March 1, 2025: Delaware Franchise Tax filing due • March 15, 2025: Income Tax Filing Extensions Due - LLCs/S Corps • April 15, 2025: Income Tax Filing Extensions Due - C Corps #3: Migration path. Bench customers will be receiving a data dump/export of their existing Bench data early next week. We’ll be releasing a tool that will migrate that data into QuickBooks Online, and we’ll have that freely available for anyone, customer or not. (Yes, your legacy accounting firm can also use it to help get you onboard with them, and I think that’s a good thing.) (QBO kinda sucks in many ways, but there are real benefits to using a boring platform for this stuff.) And then of course I hope folks will take a look at Pilot helping out with any of this. We’ll get you migrated off Bench, caught up through EOY, assigned to a tax preparer who can take care of 2024 for you—all powered by our dedicated, US-based FTE team taking care of your accounting end-to-end. DM me or give us a call at 855-506-1420 if we can help.

  • ...the BOI is back!

BOI update: As a little holiday treat for you all, the BOI filing is back! The Fifth Circuit decided to stay the previous injunction, so this is now due 1/13/25 for most folks. It’s possible that the new administration will drop the appeal (we don’t know what they’ll do), or that FinCEN will decline to enforce the deadline, but for now, businesses need to comply with the Corporate Transparency Act, and the deadline is 1/13/25 for almost all companies. We’re feeling the whiplash here as much as you are, and I doubt this will be our last update on the topic—but for the time being, this is again a requirement. Some options for you (and links) in the comments.

  • EOY is crucial for any business. Apart from closing deals and the final sprint toward hitting your annual revenue goals, many orgs are also preparing for the upcoming tax season and laying the groundwork for 2024. Here are our tips to combat any looming EOY pitfalls: ✅ Take a stab at annual planning and budgeting ✅ Close your books on time ✅ Don’t send W-2 and 1099 forms out too early ✅ Communicate new workplace policies ✅ Ensure payroll and employee tax docs are up to date Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gvF5gwYW
