Hasbro is shifting all focus to gaming, including video games, since its film properties have been rolling D20s and taking extensive damage. 🎲 ⚔️ 🐲 This move could create a massive opportunity for XR-backed gaming and brand experiences. Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks has announced a shift in strategy: the company is stepping away from co-financing movies based on its intellectual property. That said, Hasbro remains open to licensing its IP for movies, TV, and other media—just without taking on the production costs. While this approach might limit the upside potential of major box office hits, it also minimizes exposure to the volatile boom-and-bust cycle of the entertainment industry. It’s a notable departure from Nintendo’s (very) recent hands-on approach with its expanded universe, but it’s a valid—and arguably safer—move to safeguard shareholder value. What do you think? After watching the first episode of It’s in the Game, I had to stop because it was just a giant commercial for Madden 25. I have deep rooted complaints about the Madden franchise and I will gladly watch a series to allow me to “and another thing!” to my students. However it made me think that Amazon might make a play to acquire them. It would be similar to their purchase of MGM Studios but in the video game space (an area they’ve been lacking in). You couple this with the Prime push into live sports, you might have them building a holistic sports portal. In a deregulated M&A environment, it could go through and 45B purchase price is nothing to Amazon (giving a 20% premium to EA shares). It’s only 1.9% of its total market cap.
