It’s that time of year again for media to question the taxpayer value of the the F1 Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. According to the 2023 AGPC Annual Report Vic Gov’t invested $100.6m with an estimated total economic impact of $268m (EY, 2023 DJSIR Report). Looking beyond the economic impact report other benefits should also be considered: 1. Social impact - during Covid we experienced what life looked like without major events. Major events unite people, strengthen the community and instill a sense of pride for Victorians 2. Brand exposure - broadcast live in nearly every country in the world to millions of people provides significant brand exposure for Melbourne and Victoria. Add to that the exposure received via Drive to Survive. 3. Flow on tourism and economic benefit - exposure and awareness generated from above and positive experiences for the 81,000 interstate and international travellers (2023) puts Vic and Melb top of mind for future travel 4. Benefits to other Motorsports - our data shows that passion for F1 has had a direct positive impact on other Aust. The Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024 is set to be the largest event ever organised in France, presents a daunting and unique logistical challenge. The games hosts over 10,500 athletes, accommodates more than 10 million spectators, and also involves thousands of media representatives and officials, which means meticulous planning is required for the event to go ahead without disruption. In this piece, we delve into the intricate logistics strategies deployed to ensure the smooth running of the world’s largest sporting event, drawing upon the insights from official Paris 2024 logistics provider CEVA Logistics, as well as FM Logistic, and Denholm Good Logistics.

I am pleased to share my next article, "The Political and Economic Impacts of Formula 1 Races in Azerbaijan: Myths and Realities", which offers a unique perspective and in-depth analysis on this topic.Since 2016, Azerbaijan has been hosting the Formula 1 Grand Prix. Due to COVID-19, the race was not held in 2020 and was conducted without spectators in 2021. The initial contract for the event was supposed to end in 2020, but it was extended for another three years. In 2023, Azerbaijan secured the continuation of its hosting rights until at least 2026 1. Apart from Formula 1, the country has hosted several other prestigious international events, including the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012, the first European Olympic Games in 2015, the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games in 2017, and the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2019. In 2024, Azerbaijan will host COP29, the most significant event in its history since independence, further adding to its diverse event portfolio. Despite some questions surrounding Baku's role as a host for Formula 1 compared to other international sports events, the Azerbaijani government has regularly organized the race for the past seven years and has yet to address these questions. Barcelona proofs with the F1 Fan Festival its commitment to renew its partnership beyond 2026. Probably influenced by the recent announcement Madrid will host the Formula 1 starting in 2026 for the next ten years, generating a total economic impact of up to €5,000M (read full post: https://lnkd.in/dRBGt3S2), this week, the city of Barcelona is hosting a fan festival in its most iconic landmarks. This includes a "Fan Festival", where motor enthusiasts can engage with the racing world, a "Fan Forum" with a series of conferences, including a panel with CEO Stefano Domenicali and pilots and the highlight, an exhibition round that took place last afternoon in Passeig de Gracia with 40,000 fans watching it live. One must consider the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has succesfully organized the race for the last 33 years and sees with the announcement of Madrid, combined with the interest of emerging economies to equally become host cities, its position threated. The current contract expires in 2026 and is being negotiated. In 2022, the Catalan Government paid a fee of €26M, which Madrid has increased to €48M every season, meaning Barcelona will need to raise its investment if they want to keep their partnership.
