For 30 years, as a leadership & teambuilding organization we often share "life begins at the end of your comfort zone". We recognize embracing a Leader Certificate program may feel fearful for some. It is so rewarding to witness leaders' growth. Dr. Thomas Funke suggests a different framework.

Is "Stepping Out" Always Necessary? Rethinking Comfort Zone Myths. We've all heard it: "Life begins when we step out of our comfort zone." But is it really that simple? "Stepping out" implies leaving something behind. It can create a sense of loss or fear. It might make us feel we are abandoning a safe space. It can be discouraging. As a kid, I always played it safe. I've learned that the most sustainable growth often happens not by stepping out, but by expanding comfort zone. This framing is a seamless change of words, but a big shift: 1️⃣ "Expanding" focuses on the gradual progress: ↳ Venturing outside your comfort zone is a process. ↳ It doesn't require a sudden, dramatic leap. ↳ It requires a series of small, manageable steps. 2️⃣ "Expanding" suggests possibility: ↳ It emphasizes the manageable aspects of pushing your boundaries. ↳ It implies that your comfort zone is not a fixed entity. 3️⃣ "Expanding" is more sustainable: ↳ It encourages a mindset of continuous learning. ↳ It's about gradually increasing your capacity for handling new challenges, rather than constantly pushing yourself to the brink. The key? Calculated risks, not reckless leaps. It should feel right, with a touch of excitement. Stepping outside your comfort zone allows you to: ↳ Discover hidden strengths ↳ Uncover unexpected opportunities ↳ Boost your self-confidence ↳ Expand your world view Essentially, it's all about learning and growing. How do you expand your comfort zone? ___ 🤝 Learning happens better together. ♻️ Repost this to help others. Follow Dr. Thomas Funke for more insights.
