Learning #1 from our paper: Develop a strategy for everything, that might possibly go wrong.   Did you know, that the design of a safety critical system is often not mainly driven by its intended function, but rather by malfunctions of its function? In this context it is crucial to implement mitigation strategies for different potential malfunctions like: total loss of a function, partial loss of a function, unanunciated loss of a function, incorrect operation of a function, etc. For example, for developing the conceptual design of the propulsion system for the airtaxi of the HorizonUAM Concept, we had to define at least 10 major countermeasures in order to reach the given safety requirements. A different kind of workday for Celestino Sánchez Martín this week as the #XCross_project, funded by Europe's Rail Joint Undertaking, hosted an excellent workshop at the Gravenweg facilities of RET. Participants had the unique chance to connect with experienced welders from RET (Rotterdam Electric Tram) and ProRail. The session was a valuable opportunity to explore the practical side of welding and grinding #railway turnouts and to learn how these critical components function in real-life operations.
