EURNEX, the EUropean rail Research Network of EXcellence, is an association representing European institutional scientific knowledge, research and education. It comprises 35 scientific institutes in the area of rail transport and mobility all over Europe and China, represented by the standing committee with Prof. Markus Hecht and Prof. El Miloudi El Koursi. Since April 2016, Dr.-Ing. Armando Carrillo Zanuy has been appointed by the general assembly as the Secretary General of the association. The objective of the association is to promote research and development of the rail system, particularly: to enhance co-operation in research and education as well as the knowledge transferbetween the Members of the Association, European Universities and Research Establishments being interested in railway research, incl. multidisciplinary capabilities to facilitate the scheduling and implementation of joint research projects between Members and to build up a sustainable research environment for the railway sector to develop links between Members of the Association, industrial partners and operators within the railway sector to increase the awareness of specific high quality research needs and opportunities for cooperation with the railway sector to promote the railway contribution to sustainable transport policy to improve the competitiveness and economic stability of the railway sector and industry

🌍🚄 Exciting news from the latest ERRAC Plenary I’m proud to share that our association, Eurnex E.V., has been appointed as the leader of dissemination for ERRAC, The European Rail Research Advisory Council (ERRAC). In the following weeks, months and maybe years... we will be giving the news about ERRAC activities advancing in European rail research. This mission is especially critical as the European Commission is preparing the upcoming Framework Programme 10 (FP10). Railways must take center stage in this, offering a powerful tool in the fight against global warming. ERRAC’s platform should grow attracting more collaborators and interested parties. Europe faces intense competition across industrial sectors, yet it is still a global leader in railways. Strengthening the research community is key to maintaining this edge and ensuring sustainable growth. ERRAC is perfectly positioned to unite us in this endeavor. With the momentum of initiatives like Europe's Rail Joint Undertaking and the rail-friendly vision of the newly appointed European Commissioner for Transport, Apostolos Tzitzikostas (high-speed connections between EU cities, expanded night train services, single booking...), we have a unique opportunity to shape the most ambitious and impactful EU rail research program yet. 📢 Driving Innovation: Highlights from the 2nd TrainRail Hackathon Europe 👉 On December 5th and 6th, the #UICrail Rail Talent and Expertise Development Unit, in collaboration with Aston University (special thanks to Marin Marinov and Prachiti Shinde) and Eurnex E.V. (led by Armando Carrillo Zanuy), hosted the 2nd TrainRail Hackathon European Regional Competition. It was a dynamic celebration of creativity and collaboration, bringing together bright young talents to address some of the rail sector’s most pressing challenges. To prepare participants for this journey, an induction workshop was held on November 12th, ensuring all talents were equipped to deliver their best. 💡 Meryem CLOT, Deputy HR Director and Head of HR Development, warmly welcomed all participants and then gave the floor to Miguel Faro Viana, Chair of the UIC Talent and Expertise Development Platform, who officially inaugurated the event alongside Vito Pagliarisi, Chair of the Railway Talent Working Group. Their inspiring remarks emphasized the importance of innovation in shaping the future of rail. Yuke LI, Junior Adviser, HR Development & International Training, provided a clear roadmap, explaining the competition rules and evaluation criteria. During intense teamwork sessions, participants collaborated to transform raw ideas into tangible innovations. Guided by their dedicated coaches, they tackled challenges ranging from high-speed baggage systems to advanced maintenance strategies. On the final day, participants showcased their innovative solutions to a panel of expert jury members. These presentations highlighted their hard work, creativity, and commitment, underscoring the immense potential of the next generation of rail industry professionals. 🎉🏆 And the Winner Is… • High-Speed Baggage Solution: @Bernardo Mota de Barros, Guilherme Carvalho, Alexander Wellard • High-Speed Point-to-Point Night Trains for the European Market: Niloofar Minbashi, Joost Pieters, Giancarlo H.-Calvo, Ivo Bruijl ▶️ The winning European team will advance to the international final on April 8th in Chengdu, China, and attend the World Congress on Rail Training (WCRT), where talented minds from all regions will come together to present their sustainable and innovative railway solutions. This is more than a competition, it’s a collective effort to drive progress in the rail industry. We extend our gratitude to coaches, and judges for their enthusiasm and invaluable contributions. Together taken another step towards shaping the future of mobility. 👏 Congratulations to all participants, and good luck to our European champions for the finals!
