📢 Driving Innovation: Highlights from the 2nd TrainRail Hackathon Europe
👉 On December 5th and 6th, the #UICrail Rail Talent and Expertise Development Unit, in collaboration with Aston University (special thanks to Marin Marinov and Prachiti Shinde) and Eurnex E.V. (led by Armando Carrillo Zanuy), hosted the 2nd TrainRail Hackathon European Regional Competition. It was a dynamic celebration of creativity and collaboration, bringing together bright young talents to address some of the rail sector’s most pressing challenges.
To prepare participants for this journey, an induction workshop was held on November 12th, ensuring all talents were equipped to deliver their best.
💡 Meryem CLOT, Deputy HR Director and Head of HR Development, warmly welcomed all participants and then gave the floor to Miguel Faro Viana, Chair of the UIC Talent and Expertise Development Platform, who officially inaugurated the event alongside Vito Pagliarisi, Chair of the Railway Talent Working Group. Their inspiring remarks emphasized the importance of innovation in shaping the future of rail. Yuke LI, Junior Adviser, HR Development & International Training, provided a clear roadmap, explaining the competition rules and evaluation criteria.
During intense teamwork sessions, participants collaborated to transform raw ideas into tangible innovations. Guided by their dedicated coaches, they tackled challenges ranging from high-speed baggage systems to advanced maintenance strategies.
On the final day, participants showcased their innovative solutions to a panel of expert jury members. These presentations highlighted their hard work, creativity, and commitment, underscoring the immense potential of the next generation of rail industry professionals.

▶️ The winning European team will advance to the international final on April 8th in Chengdu, China, and attend the World Congress on Rail Training (WCRT), where talented minds from all regions will come together to present their sustainable and innovative railway solutions. This is more than a competition, it’s a collective effort to drive progress in the rail industry.
We extend our gratitude to coaches, and judges for their enthusiasm and invaluable contributions. Together taken another step towards shaping the future of mobility.
