Integrating #migrants and #refugees is high on the agenda in the Baltic Sea Region. In October, our coordinators facilitated a workshop to explore the potential of cultural activities in fostering social integration: https://lnkd.in/dBkCNxjq Discussions in the workshop highlighted the power of shared cultural experiences as a bridge to understanding, empathy, and unity in diverse communities. The outcomes shall be integrated into the EUSBSR Policy Area Education emerging collaboration platform "Baltic Sea Region Integrate Now", which invites actors across the Baltic Sea Region to join forces to promote #integration. Integration into a new place is only possible through mutual understanding and exchange. It is a two-way process that cannot rely solely on expectations for newcomers: Integration requires contact with local people, and there's a need for integration measures that also target the host society. 💬 "What will my new municipality in Sweden be like?" 💬 "How soon will my children start school after arriving in Sweden?” 💬 "How soon after arrival can I start looking for work?” As part of IOM’s pre-departure orientation in Tanzania last week, Sweden-bound quota refugees had online meetings with their future municipalities to learn more about the services in their new hometowns. This initiative, piloted in collaboration with the Swedish Migration Agency (SMA), allows refugees to have direct contact with their new communities already before arrival, supporting early integration. The pilot is part of SMA's K.V.O.T project, funded by #EU #AMIF and designed to foster a sustainable resettlement process that benefits all actors involved. IOM Europe and Central Asia

The Power of Social Integration for Migrants and Immigrants: Social integration is crucial for migrants and immigrants adapting to a new country. Building a support network and engaging with the local community can ease the transition and provide a sense of belonging. Learning the local language is one of the most effective ways to integrate. Start with basic phrases and gradually build your proficiency. Participate in community activities, volunteer opportunities, and social gatherings to meet new people and create connections. Maintaining ties to your cultural heritage is also important. Celebrate your traditions and share them with others. This balance between embracing the new culture and preserving your roots fosters a richer, more fulfilling experience. What has been your experience with social integration in a new country? Any tips to share? #SocialIntegration #CommunityEngagement #LanguageLearning #CulturalHeritage
