It’s been 15 years since I first appeared on screens as a contributor and broadcaster. It’s been an absolute pleasure to add value to over 1,000 programs and news events across the UK, USA, UAE, and beyond. I still feel like a “newbie,” likely due to the incredible talent I have the joy of working with—established names within our media. I’d like to thank all the brilliant production teams: you’ve kept me safe in high-vis on factory floors, helped me smile when the call-time was 3 or 4 am, and the viewers will never know the lengths you go to for the magic to happen! And to the on-air talent, particularly those who have gone out of their way to thank me, encourage me, and offer warmth and support under such incredibly tight timescales. Thank you so much to every single person who has taken the time to send me a message when you’ve seen me on screen—and for (most of) the comments, feedback, and thoughts. Here are my top three tips if you’re considering lending your voice to media: 1. Know your topic. I prep for every single interview, even if I “know” it. 2. Help bring your topic to life. Stay on track, but think of the audience and make it appropriate. 3. Be on time, be courteous, be presentable. The crew may be stressed or time-pressured—work with them to help. Later this year, I am hosting a day event in the UK (UAE & USA in 2025) to help you enhance your media profile. Details and early sign-ups in August—you can register your interest at Hello@hardcastlecollective.co. Thanks again for watching x #BroadcastingJourney #15YearsOnAir #MediaContributor #ThankYouTeams #OnAirTalent #MediaTips #EventHosting #MediaProfile #IndustryInsights #BroadcastingLife #TheCustomerWhisperer With huge thanks to Sara Cameron, Tash Hatherall and teams for all they do

🎤 The View from Behind the Mic: What Makes a Great Awards Host? 🎉 As someone who does a lot of Voice of God gigs, I’ve worked with countless presenters over the years. It’s always a joy when I get to work with old chums from my comedy circuit days – Lucy Porter being one of them. Lucy is more than just funny (though, of course, she is) she’s a brilliant awards host because she excels at the things that are not surface obvious but really make the difference: ✔️ Engaging the Audience: Lucy keeps the energy up throughout, encouraging cheers and support for all winners, not just their own table. ✔️ Tailored Content: She does her homework, weaving in subject-specific jokes and moments only that audience will truly get. ✔️ Mastering the Mood: Whether it’s energizing a quiet room or keeping a high-spirited crowd in check, she handles it with skill, grace, and humor. ✔️ Professionalism: Always cheerful, friendly to everyone on and offstage and focused on making the night special for the audience. Sure, it’s tempting to bring in a big star face from TV. But from where I sit (in that dark corner, reading out the names) what truly makes an awards night memorable for the crowd is having a host who puts the focus on the nominees and the audience, not on themselves. Lucy – and others like her – go the extra mile to ensure the event is about celebrating people. That’s what turns a good ceremony into a great one. And it's a great event planner who realises and books the right presenter to make that happen. #EventHosting #VoiceOfGod #AwardsHost #ComedyCircuit #EventSuccess #wiia24 #voiceover #EventPlanning #Announcer #voiceoverlife

While entertaining, it's easy to believe that talent is the only thing that matters. However, after years of experience both on TV and in front of live audiences, I've come to realize that it's not just about talent. It's about connecting with people through that talent. Building a connection with your audience can make all the difference, whether you're a musician, actor, a journalist who loves to tell great news, or any other type of performer. So next time you're preparing for a performance or live broadcast, remember that it's not just about showcasing your talent, but also about finding ways to connect with your audience and make them feel a part of the experience. Regardless of appearance. Feld Entertainment #experience #live #excellence

If you haven't watched Scoop on Netflix, then you should. The film brilliantly tells the story of Sam McAlister's determination to get the now-famous BBC Newsnight interview with Prince Andrew. Scoop does a brilliant job in presenting Sam's work in the lead up to the interview. What was great is how it shares little details from her personal life, giving us a contrast of the life of a journalist. One movement is getting a call from Buckingham Palace where the focus is trying to get the interview and the other is heading home via a local Kebab shop to her mum and son. Yet, Scoop also tells the story of gamekeepers, Prince Andrew's Private Secrerary Amanda Thirsk and PR advisor Jason Stein that she brought in. Scoop is not just a story of Sam McAllister and the blockers that she faced within the BBC but also the story of the waterfall culture that exists/ed within the Palace where, as we are told, a non-comms person let BBC Newsnight get the Scoop, contrarory to advice from Jason Stein. The dynamic that also caught my eye is the one where Amanda allowed Newsnight in, against the advice of the of Jason Stein. That is a decision that many professional communicators have experienced in their careers. Decisions that highlight the lack of understand of not just the media, but strategic communications or reputation management. And yes, Prince Andrew's reputation was long gone before the interview. It just needed the extra push that Sam and the Newsnight team secured. #Scoop #journalism #publicrelations #communications https://lnkd.in/eqYTZhXa

What does the Netflix team look out for when they see the script for a show in the Asia Pacific? - Minyoung KIM "We don't actually try to create something for the global audience. But you know, when I first see the script, when my team, when they first read the script, they sort of look at what are some of the strengths of the show? How will this resonate within the local country [or] home country? But what are some of the aspects? It could be a genre, a certain type of character, or a theme. Will that actually resonate outside? Try to estimate the size of the audience. If it's a story that we believe is really for the local market then it's still a great bet to make because that's our goal, satisfying our local members. We just have to make sure that we right size investment. But if we believe this type of show actually has the potential to go beyond the local market, we want to make sure that we put the right size investment in that show. So When we read a story, we think about what is the size of the audience, and if we change a certain thing will we be able to really expand that audience, and is that aligned with the creative vision of the creator?" Quick broadcast PR tip: please watch the show that you're pitching. You don't have to watch it religiously, but maybe once a week so you know what kind of thing is being covered. Producers do sometimes wonder why PRs would want their clients on a television programme they themselves don't tune into. For example, being asked when the show is on air, or getting the name of the show wrong (the one I work on is Business Live with Ian King), just displays a lack of interest in the work we do - and isn't a massive incentive to take the interview. From what I can tell, this basic info is available on Roxhill. Apologies for the rant, but this has become a very frequently committed error.

⭐ I was honoured and thankful to be named a Broadcast Hotshot in 2022. ⭐ However, this recognition was only made possible because the under-30 age limit was removed. Bravo Broadcast (MBI)! To be honest, I was shocked when Matt Campion told me he had nominated me! Actually, I couldn't hide my excitement 😂 It was a proud moment for me, especially as I had recovered from a serious illness the previous year, and almost left the industry entirely as a result. That’s why, I really encourage everyone to look beyond simply youth when they think about nominations. Many freelancers, like myself, come from working-class backgrounds and entered the industry as a second or third career—our contributions are just as valuable. I know, I know, *shock, horror*, but not everyone has the bank of Mum and Dad or a trust fund to rely on. And, *shock, horror*— that doesn't mean I hate anyone who does. But let's have a bit of radical honesty about the reality of working in TV, shall we? Many of us were simply fuelled by passion, positive vibes and a leap of faith! 😂 With the industry in disarray, it's a great time to celebrate our rising stars from all walks of life and across all sectors; it might even be the boost someone needs, just like it was for me. But that means valuing individuals' contributions based on *check notes* exactly that—their contributions—not based on arbitary metrics. There's room for everyone to shine brightly in this industry - both young and... wise 😉 . Let's back that up with actions. So get nominating folks! #BroadcastHotShots

The sudden turn of events in Philippine noontime television shows reminds me that everyone is replaceable at work. I thought, no matter how long you work in a company and regardless of your loyalty to them, and no matter how good your track record is, there is no guarantee that they will not replace you with someone new. Similarly, no matter how hard you work as a new employee to prove your worth, there is no guarantee that they will not replace you with someone with a better resume. As I was following this showbiz events on TV, I realised, the saying that “we are just a number” must be true. It may sound sad, but I think it’s also true that if we die today, there will surely be a job advertisement for the position that we used to hold the next day. I further reflected. I thought, as an employee, I have to keep improving myself and not to be complacent with my work situation. I have to keep developing myself and allowing myself to learn more everyday. Also, I have to equip myself with skills, knowledge and qualifications to ensure that I am good and competitive enough to keep a job or find a new one in case my time to be replaced has come. But above all this, we have to know our worth not only as an employee, but also and most especially, as a person. Copypaste 👑
