🎤 The View from Behind the Mic: What Makes a Great Awards Host? 🎉 As someone who does a lot of Voice of God gigs, I’ve worked with countless presenters over the years. It’s always a joy when I get to work with old chums from my comedy circuit days – Lucy Porter being one of them. Lucy is more than just funny (though, of course, she is) she’s a brilliant awards host because she excels at the things that are not surface obvious but really make the difference: ✔️ Engaging the Audience: Lucy keeps the energy up throughout, encouraging cheers and support for all winners, not just their own table. ✔️ Tailored Content: She does her homework, weaving in subject-specific jokes and moments only that audience will truly get. ✔️ Mastering the Mood: Whether it’s energizing a quiet room or keeping a high-spirited crowd in check, she handles it with skill, grace, and humor. ✔️ Professionalism: Always cheerful, friendly to everyone on and offstage and focused on making the night special for the audience. Sure, it’s tempting to bring in a big star face from TV. But from where I sit (in that dark corner, reading out the names) what truly makes an awards night memorable for the crowd is having a host who puts the focus on the nominees and the audience, not on themselves. Lucy – and others like her – go the extra mile to ensure the event is about celebrating people. That’s what turns a good ceremony into a great one. And it's a great event planner who realises and books the right presenter to make that happen. #EventHosting #VoiceOfGod #AwardsHost #ComedyCircuit #EventSuccess #wiia24 #voiceover #EventPlanning #Announcer #voiceoverlife

Love that Laura Shavin - it's about the room, the event and the people - and a great host serves them. I've seen too many hosts make it all about them. Sure, many organisers and guests want the frisson of celebrity fairy dust at their event, but that alone won't make an evening a 5 star experience.
