When Vibrant Hawaiʻi gathered for our annual End of Year Celebration, we took some time to reflect on the past few years of collective impact, including the Digital Literacy Demonstration Project! 💻 From January 2022 to March 2022, Vibrant Hawaiʻi offered free workshops for digital literacy training to residents island-wide, led by Project Director Noel Morin. Digital Literacy - the ability to find, evaluate & clearly communicate information through typing + other media on various digital platforms - is increasingly vital in today’s society, especially in the workplace! Funded by the @Kirk-Landry Charitable Fund, the Digital Literacy Demonstration Project promoted computer literacy by providing classes and technology tools. 💻 The result of 90 days + 300 participants? ✅ 96% of participants felt the workshop gave them the ability & confidence to learn new skills ✅ 73% of participants report changing their assumption about who can be a teacher ✅ 94% are excited & have the confidence to share what they've learned with their friends and family! 📊 A Hidden Challenge in the Non-Profit Sector Something's been bothering me while working with various charities and non-profits: Impact measurement is crucial for securing grants and funding, yet most organizations struggle with it. Here's why: 1. Traditional OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) systems present a frustrating choice: - Invest in expensive, complex enterprise systems - Or use rigid, template-based solutions that don't fit unique needs 2. "Modern" alternatives aren't always better. While online forms seem convenient, they often exclude key beneficiaries: - Young children struggle with digital interfaces - Elderly participants find them confusing - Limited computer access and literacy in many lower income communities The result? Organizations either spend too much time on manual data collection or just do not capturing valuable impact data entirely. 🤝 If your non-profit is facing similar challenges with impact measurement, let's talk.
