In 1900, the Olympic Games in Paris saw the participation of women for the very first time. Only 2% of the athletes were women—a small but significant step forward. Today, as we close the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, we’ve witnessed a historic milestone: 50% of the athletes were women. This remarkable achievement, 124 years in the making, shows that gender equality in sports is not just a dream but a reality. Women and men now compete for the same number of medals and receive equal recognition on the world stage. This journey has been long and challenging, but it serves as a powerful reminder that equality is possible. Even in areas where change seems difficult or distant, progress is within our reach. Let’s carry this spirit forward and continue striving for equality in all aspects of life. 🚀 #Equality #Olympics #Inclusion #Diversity #Progress

The #Paris2024 Olympic Games prompt us to contemplate the hurdles that have shaped its history. Following Paris 1900, Coubertin faced the task of establishing the games as a meaningful event in their own right. In Paris 1924, women brought their struggle to the forefront, pushing for IOC recognition and acceptance of female participation in Olympic competitive sports. By 2024, gender equality in participation has been achieved, yet the obstacles for women persist. Similarly, a significant concern lies in addressing the difficulty of minimizing the environmental impact of this mega-event. Equality at the Olympics 🥇 As this year’s Olympics come to a close, we’re celebrating more than just the incredible performances of the athletes. This year marked a historic milestone for gender equality, with women making up 50% of the participants for the first time. It’s a powerful symbol of progress and inclusion. Equally inspiring is the introduction of a nursery for the first time for parents, breaking down barriers for those balancing elite sports with family life. Team GB’s remarkable performances have made us proud, but the true victory extends beyond the medals. This progress in the sports world reflects a broader societal shift towards equality, demonstrating that when opportunities are equally accessible, everyone benefits. This isn't just about sports. It’s a glimpse into a future where gender parity is the norm in every field. #FTSEWomenLeaders #GenderEquality #EqualityInSports #Olympics2024 Vivienne Artz OBE FCSI (Hon) CMgr CCMI AIGP Penny James Nimesh Patel Laura Needham Monique Carter Chris Grigg
