What's a Fair Salary for a New CTO in a Pre-Seed Startup? Answers: https://lnkd.in/gjEe5waw #StartupEquity #CTO #StartupAdvice #FoundersJourney Hey everyone! 🌟 I recently shared a post discussing the role of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in a pre-seed startup that was facing challenges like no product-market fit (PMF) and a lack of users. Since then, I've got some updates, and I’m hoping to get your thoughts on a few things. So here’s the scoop: - **Exciting News:** Our startup just got accepted into an accelerator! 🎉 We gave away 5% of total equity for this opportunity, which I see as a fantastic learning resource. - **Old CTO's Role:** The ex-CTO is keen to stay on as an advisor but will also help with coding. They’ll report to me and probably clock in around 5 to 10 hours a week. They’re hanging on to 10% equity, but we’ve agreed that this will come with certain milestones I’ll set. If those aren’t met, their stake could drop by 2-4%—we're still figuring that out. - **Background Context:** The previous CEO worked as a consultant in this space, which previously generated significant income ($25-50k per contract). However, attempts ...

"The level of support and being available throughout the journey is key. For us, as a foreign entity coming from Australia, I was always on the lookout for someone I can trust—and then I landed on just Uplers." says Praneeth Kumar Gedela, VP of Engineering, iluminr In conversation with Reshma Babnani, he further added- "Uplers' website itself is quite trendy, with a startup vibe. I was looking for trustworthiness and reliability." 💡And that's when we realized—Uplers is truly making a difference for SaaS startups worldwide, helping them hire top engineers from India. #SaaSHiring #HireTopEngineers #EngineeringTalent #IndianEngineers #RemoteHiring #StartupSuccess #TalentSolutions #GlobalWorkforce #HiringMadeEasy #EngineeringExcellence

A big mistake executives at big companies make when applying to startups is they position themselves as executives. Don't get me wrong, becoming a VP / C-suite executive at a big company is a major achievement. But startups don't need executives. They need builders. Positioning yourself as the head of a large team, directing / delegating, large scale project management, signing hundred-million dollar deals, etc isn't exciting to a startup. Startups don't need any of that. Not until they hit 500+ employees. Startups need people who can: -Convince customers to pay for products that don't exist yet -Talk highly-compensated engineers into taking pay cuts -Build things completely from scratch with no help -Put their ego aside and do boring IC work -Sell computers out of a garage Position yourself as someone who does ☝ and startups will be excited to bring you on board.

What Salary Should a New CTO Expect in a Pre-Seed Startup? Answers: https://lnkd.in/gb2p3Q-u #StartupSalary #CTOcompensation #PreSeedFunding Hey everyone! 🙌 I’ve got a bit of a conundrum that I’d love your input on. Imagine stepping into a pre-seed startup as the new Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and taking over from the existing CTO. Here's the deal: The current CTO helped get the ball rolling with the initial product, but it’s got no Product-Market Fit (PMF) and no paying customers. 🙅♂️ I’m working with the API he created and have built a brand new front-end (FE), alongside the CEO. We’re trying to figure out if the existing API can pivot towards something that might actually find some PMF. 🚀 This whole team has put in their personal funds; CEO kicked in $30k, and the CTO added $20k. So, we’re pretty bootstrapped at this point. The outgoing CTO wants to stay in the picture as an advisor, looking to hold onto 5-10% equity, but he’s not going to be super involved—maybe just 5-10 hours per week. 🕒 The CEO owns 70% equity while the former CTO holds 30%, and keep in mind that the CEO has great industry experience but lacks technical skills. With all th...

Startup founders, have said to me in the past “it’s tough competing with tech giants for the best engineers and developers”. They offer hefty salaries, big brand names, and perks that are hard to match. But here’s the thing: if you find yourself constantly losing top talent to bigger companies, maybe you’re fishing in the wrong pool. The people who thrive and love working in startups are a different breed. The key to competing for tech talent isn’t about trying to beat bigger companies at their game—it’s about finding the people who are built for the startup grind. #Startups #TechHiring #TechTalent #CTO #Founder #Recruitment #TechRecruitment

I dismissed every team member after 6 weeks of building my first Star-tup company. She's gone! This is not some kind of made-up story trying to sell my intention. It happened actually, in 2022 when I was an intern. I just acquired some digital skills in marketing and digital income. So, I wanted to create a brand that would help young people grow and make cool money. I assembled a team of 6, eager to work and collaborate but we lacked FUNDS. Not to waste the team's time and efforts, I dismissed everyone after 6 weeks of building. I couldn't fund the project, even when I wanted to because my salary was just $40/month. In essence, bootstrapping your project may be very discouraging especially when your income is feeble. Getting an Angel investor is somewhat difficult too, especially when you don't have a convincing track record. Thankfully, Founders Connect has provided an opportunity for you to breathe air into your project. Hosting a start-up innovation challenge is the best news this month ever. You can apply to pitch and win a $1000 equity-free cash prize and up to $300k worth of perks from Paystack, Google for Startups, Intercom, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Founders Factory, and more. #Hiring #SoftwareEngineers as an early-stage #Founder is different from hiring at later-stage startups or public tech companies. There are unique requirements & unique challenges. However, most #RecruitingAgencies partner with early-stage startups in the same way they do larger businesses. Same contract/price -- despite having less resources at their disposal. Same workflow -- despite not having a built-out TA function. Same sourcing strategy -- despite looking for more specific qualities. We built Project Method with the needs of early-stage startups in mind. Our candidate network is actively looking for Pre-Seed, Seed, and Series A startups since that's all we recruit for. After a great start to 2024, we're looking for 1 or 2 more partners heading into March. Do you know anyone?
