Combating Domestic Violence: A Call for Compassion and Change Domestic violence is not just a private issue; it affects individuals, families, and communities in deeply personal ways. Each story of abuse has a ripple effect, impacting not only the victim but also children, friends, and loved ones who may witness or experience its emotional toll. To combat domestic violence, we need both compassion and concrete action. This means creating safe spaces for survivors to speak up and seek help without fear or shame. We must build strong support systems, from friends and family to professional counseling and legal assistance, to help survivors find safety and rebuild their lives. Education is equally important. By raising awareness and teaching young people about respect and healthy relationships, we can break cycles of abuse and foster a culture of empathy. Together, through understanding, support, and action, we can create a future where every individual feels safe and valued in their own home. #ceaforgng

Children exposed to domestic violence are very likely to experience direct abuse and neglect due to violent living environments. It is our duty, as a community, to protect children so they do not face the distressing challenges that often result from their experiences, such as emotional distress, academic challenges, and normalized violence and criminal behavior. You can learn more about the impact of domestic violence on children and how CAWC helps protect them by reading our recent blog post. Child molestation is an incredibly sensitive and deeply painful issue that involves the exploitation and abuse of a child's innocence and trust. The impact of such an act can leave lasting emotional, psychological, and sometimes physical scars on a child, affecting them well into adulthood. It's important to remember that behind every statistic or report, there is a child—a person with hopes, dreams, and a future that deserves protection and care. Child molestation is not just a crime against an individual; it's a violation of humanity. It shatters the fundamental sense of safety and trust that every child should be entitled to. Support and understanding are crucial for survivors, who may feel isolated, ashamed, or powerless. It’s essential to create an environment where they feel heard, believed, and supported. Ending this form of abuse requires collective awareness, education, and action. Society has a responsibility to protect its most vulnerable members and to ensure that justice is served, not only in punishing the perpetrators but also in providing healing and support for the victims. #ceaforgng #saynotochildabuse

The roots of Domestic violence are in the schools. If we do not take intervention measures to stop bullying first, the DV will continue. please read the article below: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SCHOOL BULLYING: AN EXAMINATION OF THE INEXTRICABLE LINK BETWEEN THE TWO AND THE USE OF RESTORATIVE JUSTICE TO BREAK THE CYCLE. https://lnkd.in/g9KdUQQ8

The statute regarding child custody in Florida, my home state, says, “there is a rebuttable presumption that equal time-sharing of a minor child is in the best interests of the minor child”. If there are two safe, healthy, non-abusive parents, I could not agree more. However, if one parent (could be either the mother or the father) exhibits any sort of coercively controlling or abusive behaviors, I vehemently disagree! Forcing a child to spend a large proportion of time with an unsafe parent is severely detrimental to their wellbeing. Blanket polices like this fail to take the full scope of domestic violence into consideration. They protect the rights of the abusive parent and end up causing more harm to innocent children. This need to be changed immediately! What state do you live in and do the timesharing statutes factor domestic violence into the equation?

I completely agree in principle. Men and boys need to take responsibility and accountability. However, there are clear benefits of women and girls learning martial arts and self-defence for its own sake and in the right environment. https://lnkd.in/g_CuvkZM https://lnkd.in/gwhaevPC I also agree that typical self-defence programs don't talk about non-physical forms of actions and assault, which has led me to create my own holistic system that does. NO GIRL SHOULD HAVE TO LEARN SELF-DEFENCE TO WALK TO SCHOOL. This child says she ‘lacked confidence’ - but what she really means is that she was scared of violence. Adults should not be feeding into this by claiming that teaching a 15 year old girl ‘self-defence’ will protect her from VAWG. Absolutely disgusting approach to safeguarding girls. To be clear, I am not criticising the girls who want this, they want it because they don’t feel safe - I’m criticising the adults around them, and adult MEN who make them feel so frightened to walk to school that they feel they need a fckin martial art to live a normal life. I hate this so much!!
