The Local London sub-region is the fastest growing part of the capital and has huge potential for inclusive growth that benefits all our boroughs’ residents. Yet, unemployment in our sub-region tracks higher than the national and London averages. Our first year Local Skills Improvement Plan progress report offers insights into ongoing initiatives and opportunities for involvement and highlights exciting changes already underway in training and education in our sub-region, including: 🌟 Responses to the LSIP by individual education and training providers. ✨ Local Skills Improvement Fund activity around green and digital projects. ⭐ Chamber of Commerce collaboration. Anyone invested in skill development and implementation efforts and how these support the wider economy in Local London will want to have a read and get involved in developing training that meets career needs. https://shorturl.at/htiZq London Borough of Barking and Dagenham London Borough of Bexley London Borough of Bromley Enfield Council Royal Borough of Greenwich London Borough of Havering Newham Council London Borough of Redbridge London Borough of Waltham Forest

Here's my 2024 LinkedIn Rewind, by Coauthor.studio: This year showed what's possible when we focus on breaking down real barriers to employment. Across Wales and West Central England, we're seeing first hand how the right support changes lives. September brought expanded responsibility as Director of Employability & Skills at Serco, allowing us to integrate employment support with skills development. Joining 200 global fellows at the Institute of Employability Professionals reinforced our evidence-based approach to employment support. Three updates that resonated this year: 1. "Delighted to be taking leadership of Serco Skills and Training Services to progress us on the next stage of our growth journey." Integration of employment and skills support to create better outcomes https://lnkd.in/ee7E_WtS 2. "Feeling proud to be accepted as a fellow of such a prestigious organisation, joining around 200 like minded people around the globe." Recognition of our practical approach to employment support https://lnkd.in/eyWEi6az 3. "Restart Scheme really is changing people's lives." Showing Minister Jo Churchill MP real program impact https://lnkd.in/eV_KsvaC The Centre for New Midlands connection keeps growing stronger. With over 1,000 Serco employees delivering services across the region, we're not just talking about local impact - we're creating it. Looking to 2025: We're expanding both employment and skills support while strengthening regional partnerships. The employment landscape keeps evolving, but our focus stays clear - helping people overcome barriers and find work that changes their lives. #employmentsupport #skillsfortheworkforce #sercoandproud

🎅❄️CHRISTMAS IS COMING❄️🎅 Give the gift of opportinity. We are fast approaching Christmas in what feels like the quickest year to date. However, with 2024 coming to a close, thoughts are turning to next year and everything we want to achieve. Dundee City Council's Employability offer is going through some major changes to best serve the local communities and businesses in Dundee. Skills gaps are a massive opportunity for us to seriously impact local communities, people and the local economy if we can do this the right way. Dundee still feels very much in a state of flux. A period of change across the board. Another labour market shift that this city has become more than accustomed to historically. But now feels the time to make Dundee a hub of activity once more. I have been fortunate enough to have some exciting discussions in the past few months with Private Sector organisations who are more than open to giving opportunity if we can figure out that skills gap. The processes have started. Will you and your company come on the journey? If you are passionate about making change in Dundee or want to hear more about our objectives, drop me a message or email. gregor.marshall@dundeecity.gov.uk Dundee Adult Employability Service Dundee City Council Dundee and Angus College Erin Johnson carol M. For any peers in (former) LEPs, Local Authorities and MCAs, charged with developing a Skills and Employment Strategy, I encourage you to take a look at this post 👇 #Skills #Strategy #EconomicGrowth
Over the past year, it has been a great pleasure to work with the Local Government Association and expert colleagues from across the Local Authority and MCA network to help develop the next stage of thinking on Work Local - an ambitious, practical vision for a devolved and integrated employment and skills system. https://lnkd.in/ewYSmGWb Thanks to everyone who contributed to and participated in this afternoon's LGA Work Local Webinar, where we were able to share proposals for a new place-based employment and skills offer to boost inclusive economic growth. I was particularly pleased to have been asked to speak about the Youth Pathways offer designed to help young people (16 to 24) not in employment, education or training, or at risk of becoming NEET, find their first job or put them on a career path. It was a great opportunity to talk about the work that Richard Parker and the West Midlands Combined Authority are doing in collaboration with Local Authority partners to tackle high and rising youth unemployment and to make the West Midlands the best place for young people to start their career. If you'd like to find out more about the work in the West Midlands Combined Authority, get in touch with Helene Dearn OBE, David Gaughan and team. Employers can also pledge their support here: https://lnkd.in/ecrXETd4

🌟 Discover first hand what the Job Start scheme holds with insights from our JP Corry team members, Hannah and Marcus! Dive into the video below for an inside look and uncover the opportunities awaiting you. #JPCorry #JobStart #OpportunityAwaits #CareerGrowth
It was great to see over 550 young people visit 2 Royal Avenue yesterday for our JobStart Meet the Employer event, where they had the chance to meet over 30 employers with JobStart opportunities in a wide range of roles. Thanks to a partnership between ourselves and Department for Communities, the free event, attended by our Lord Mayor and the Minister for Communities Gordon Lyons, also provided useful information on our Employment Academies, self-employment, the Gateway to Choices (G2C) service and the Condition Management Programme. It was all about helping young people in Belfast who are at risk of long-term unemployment or struggling to get a job - a key priority in our Belfast Agenda – and part of our employability and skills programme, #TakeTheNextStep. The diverse roles on offer spanned administration, childcare, customer service, distribution, health and social care, hospitality, logistics, marketing, sports coaching, transport, videography, youth work and warehousing. Watch this short video with Hannah Quirey, HR Advisor, JP Corry and Marcus Harvey, a JobStart graduate employed by JP Corry, to see what they thought. Young Londoners are ambitious, capable, and talented. But many can never see or access opportunities – and the city’s employers are missing out. That’s why we meet young people facing barriers where they feel comfortable and safe to nurture their development through positive role models, workshops, and industry insights. These opportunities build the skills and networks that springboard our young Londoners to explore careers they thought were unattainable. In 2023, our Employability and Skills programmes supported 14,939 children and young people. Over 3,000 of those young people joined our employability programme, Access Aspiration, and accessed opportunities they might never see otherwise. Take Queren, for example, who shares her story on page nine about how we helped her change from thinking she couldn’t do certain jobs “to wanting so much more…and achieving it.” But we know there is still so much more to do. Only 17% of professional jobs in London are taken by working class people.* Our pan-London reach and expertise enables us to work directly with employers who want a more inclusive workplace where all talented people can succeed. We provide the pipeline that enables this and ensures London grows more prosperous and inclusive for all.
