How do you help kids lose weight without body shaming? This is a tricky, sensitive topic. It’s one many parents and providers wrestle with. This week on the Exam Room Nutrition podcast, we discuss how to support kids in achieving healthy weight changes while respecting their bodies and development. 💡 Here are a few takeaways: 1. Respect the stage of puberty the child is in. It’s natural for boys to have body fat before puberty and for girls to gain body fat during puberty. 2. Focus on nutrient-rich swaps rather than cutting food. A grilled chicken sandwich and fruit cup instead of fried chicken and fries is a great example. 3. Keep an eye on sugary drinks. Sodas, sugary teas, and even fancy Starbucks drinks can add unnecessary calories. 4. Help them understand the difference between hunger and satisfaction. Skipping meals can lead to overeating later. 5. Focus on body composition changes, like building lean muscle, rather than just the number on the scale. Remember, it's about fueling their bodies, not restricting. 🎧 Catch the full episode for more tips! Or comment 71 and I'll send you the link. #childhealth #nutritiontips #weightmanagement #podcast
