Fabrizio makes a point that I have made to many clients looking at private jet ownership; get the right pilots, period. I do not quite agree with his sentiment as far as empty legs as, at least in this part of the world, as there can be some great deals on very nice aircraft crewed by highly qualified, often ex-major airline pilots. And, to be fair, there are great pilots who’s only experience with major airlines has been in the back with the rest of the punters… … I’m making a generalization, but generally the point is correct… that’s why it’s called a generalization. A recent CL60 deal in fact was crewed by a friend of mine who was the head of flight standards for a major, and rather pedantic, air carrier. Major carriers, real major carriers, have extremely high standards from day one. They only hire the best, and their simulator checks range from tough, to very challenging. But, the points made by Fabrizio still stand. You’re spending many thousands, or tens of thousands on a charter… who’s up front? Double for purchasing your own aircraft. Like Fabrizio, we do not recommend pilots who we do not know personally, and we prefer pilots we have operated with specifically. And, for the most part, when I’m looking for a pilot for a client, that person has, or is still flying for a major carrier. They will keep you happy, safe, and alive… just pay them what their worth (like you do your lawyer).

“ Are you ready for the short field landing test? Ten golden tips “ (Last Part) 6) Don't worry about soft landing A common mistake is to worry about a soft landing on the touchdown point. There is nothing worse than putting the wheels on the ground before or after the landing point with the intention of a smooth landing. When the landing in this maneuver is done according to the standard, you have succeeded in executing this above maneuver. 7)Two types of braking: braking with wheels and braking The purpose of short field landing is to use the minimum runway distance. Uniform back pressure on the stick and wheel brake should be kept in mind Doing this will guarantee your landing in the least possible distance 8) Go-around if in doubt If you were flying a little higher or maybe faster and you think you can't touch down at the defined point, this not only gives you another chance to land, but it's also an opportunity for you to make a decision. Acceptance of soft field landing in a range outside Acs standards usually means rejection 9) If you get less flap, it will be difficult to control the angle of the pit for landing and will lead to loss of runway length Finally, enjoy the benefits of trim Trim is an essential tool to help you approach the runway smoothly and effortlessly As soon as you set the power and pitch, if you trim the plane You don't need to fight with the controls #Airport #turbulence #checklist #check_list #control #poh #performance #landing #land #shortfield #short_field #softfield #homan_ardakanian #emergancy #safety #Emergency_Procedures #navigation #fly #thunderstorm #safetyfirst #training #pilot #pilots #workload #crash #pilottraining #approach #runway #flighttraining #aviation #airlinepilot #flight_instructor #captain #fatigue #runway #aerodrom #aviationnews #aviationjobs #aviationsafety #dangers #safetymanagement #exam #rule #Elnaz_Chelongar #Echo_Charlie89 #الناز_چلونگر

Today I took my youngest with me to practice short field takeoffs and landings. I plan to fly my wife to Cedar Key in the near future and it has the shortest paved runway in Florida. At 2,302’ it’s not that short, but I still wanted to have plenty of buffer room. We headed to Umatilla (X23) since it’s the closest in the area to simulate the length at 2,876’. I refreshed myself on the FAA ACS (airman certification standards) and the POH (pilots operating handbook) for short field procedures and performance requirements. The hop from Apopka to Umatilla took just a few minutes, so I quickly flopped CTAF frequencies and listened for other pilots in the pattern. An Archer was departing as we arrived, but otherwise it was clear. There is no weather frequency for this airport, so I used Leesburg since it was closest and saw some smoke near the runway that made me decide 01 was the best choice. I setup for a short field landing which requires a steeper approach at a slightly slower speed. I maintain 65 knots on final and aimed for the threshold. I touched down a bit past my aiming point as expected, dumped the flaps to put weight on the wheels, pulled back the yoke for aero braking, and gave moderate pressure on the brakes. On the first touchdown I could have made the first turnoff, but went easier on the brakes. I made the first turnoff on each subsequent landing. Short field takeoffs in my aircraft calls for two notches of flaps. You maximize the runway available by coming all the way to the edge before turning straight. Then apply full power with the brakes engaged and let go when full power is achieved and instruments in the green. The plane jumps off the runway in this configuration. I made several more takeoffs and landings and was satisfied with my performance. I probably floated a bit too much, but I wasn’t going for a check ride. We then headed back to Apopka to finish the flight. In retrospect I should have aimed for the displacement threshold in front of the runway, but my results were more than enough to satisfy myself for Cedar Key. #aviation #avgeeks #pilots #pilotlife
