This week, Blue Alliance’s Executive Director, Nicolas Pascal, took the stage at the Natural Capital Conference, joining a dynamic panel to tackle one of the most pressing challenges of our time: financing the future of biodiversity. As global attention turns to innovative solutions for protecting our planet's natural capital, Nicolas brings valuable insights to the conversation, presenting our impact loan facility for marine protected areas and blue economy. 🌊 The Blue Finance impact loan facility, launched with initial commitments from BNP Paribas provides impact financing to reef-positive businesses that support coral reef conservation and the Blue Economy. Sectors include community-based aquaculture, ecotourism, sustainable fisheries, and blue carbon projects. The facility offers patient capital and performance-linked returns based on environmental and social outcomes, making it an attractive option for investors seeking impactful, long-term returns in marine biodiversity and livelihoods. The facility is de-risked with catalytic grant capital for technical assistance and marine conservation . Conferences like this are key opportunities to highlight the importance of financing in biodiversity preservation. Together, we can reshape the narrative around biodiversity and investment. "Indigenous peoples have long been the best managers of their own lands, many of which have significant benefits for the climate and biodiversity. Yet this skillful management can be invisible labor to those outside these communities, who often view a “pristine” ecosystem as one untouched by human hands — when, in fact, human hands are actively protecting and maintaining that ecosystem." What is IPBES and why does it matter?🌿 The Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is like a global wake-up call for nature. It is an independent, UN-linked platform established in 2012 to bridge the gap between science, policy, and people for biodiversity and ecosystem health. 🔍 What Does IPBES Do? - Gathers the latest science on ecosystems and wildlife. - Advises governments on how to protect nature while ensuring food, water, and health for all. - Connects global experts to find real solutions for environmental challenges. 🚨 Why is IPBES Crucial? - If we continue on our current path, nearly one million species of plants and animals, or one-eighth of all plant and animal species on Earth, will face extinction, many within decades. - Healthy ecosystems are the foundation of life—providing clean air, water, and food. - Their work empowers countries to make informed, impactful decisions to protect biodiversity, and their Global Assessment Report is an essential resource for understanding the urgent need for action. The final post of 2024 for the PRO-Coast initiative is remarkably uplifting, as it encapsulates the consortium's forward-looking vision in light of recent developments from the Research and Innovation Agency (REA). Last week, the REA launched an integrated campaign focusing on the upcoming 11th meeting of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), which prominently features PRO-Coast in a dedicated chapter. Titled "EU-funded projects leading the way to transformative change for biodiversity," this chapter underscores the pivotal roles that policymakers, businesses, and local communities play in driving meaningful transformation. Highlighting PRO-Coast alongside fellow projects BIONEXT, PLANET4B , and SUSTAIN , the document showcases PRO-Coast’s vision to inspire and empower local communities and civil society, emphasizing the importance of their active participation in the restoration and maintenance of European coastal ecosystems. By fostering a collaborative approach to environmental governance, the initiative seeks to mobilize local stakeholders in achieving lasting biodiversity benefits, thus reinforcing a sense of shared responsibility and collective action for a more sustainable future. https://lnkd.in/dZAumWsW PRO-Coast #societalchange #transformationalchange #biodiversity ECOSYSTEM #Sustainabledevelopment

PRO-Coast is experiencing an inspiring momentum, thanks to the exceptional efforts of its 20 consortium members (coming from 14 different countries), who have collectively made significant strides since the project's official launch 14 months ago. The initiative has already started to lay the groundwork for a lasting legacy, demonstrating its potential to drive positive change in coastal ecosystem management. As we look ahead to the next two years, anticipation builds for even more crucial developments, particularly with the implementation of ten Pan-European case studies that span diverse coastal ecosystems across Europe. 👍 These case studies are set to amplify PRO-Coast’s impact, enabling the consortium to share valuable insights and best practices that will benefit not just local communities but also policy frameworks and conservation strategies on a broader scale. With this collaborative spirit and commitment to transformative progress, the future of PRO-Coast promises to be truly remarkable! PR & More #Ecosystem #Transformationalchange PRO-Coast Horizon
