😱 Google unveiled its first-ever AI agent that can take actions on the web on Wednesday, a research prototype from the company’s DeepMind division called Project Mariner. The Gemini-powered agent takes control of your Chrome browser, moves the cursor on your screen, clicks buttons, and fills out forms, allowing it to use and navigate websites much like a human would. The company is starting out by releasing its AI agent to a small group of pre-selected testers on Wednesday, Google says. 🫢 A Google executive tells TechCrunch this is part of a “fundamentally new UX paradigm shift”: moving users away from directly interacting with websites, and instead, interacting with a generative AI system that does it for you. https://lnkd.in/eJkwrkuB

☠️ User experiences on the web are about to die ☠️ Yet, that's not something I have been hearing discussing among the product or founder community. Yesterday, Google unveiled Project Mariner, a Gemini-powered AI agent developed by DeepMind, that can take action on the web for you—mimicking human behavior on user interfaces. Picture this: You tell the AI to build your grocery cart, book a flight, or find recipes. The agent navigates websites like a human—clicking buttons, filling forms, and even asking clarifying questions. In its demo shown to Techcrunch, Mariner navigated a grocery store website, added items to a cart from a list, and interacted in real-time for task precision. This is not the first kind of web-browsing agent as similar products have been released by Anthropic and OpenAI in recent months. Yet, none of them has the Google's user base and the distribution power. Hence the impact of Project Mariner, if it will deliver on its promise, could really have a disruptive force on how websites and web-based (consumer) applications will be built. Why is this significant? 🔹 A Paradigm Shift in UX Google’s Jaclyn Konzelmann, who led the project, calls this a “fundamentally new UX paradigm.” Instead of interacting directly with websites, users engage with an AI that does the heavy lifting. The result? A potential reduction in the need for traditional web interfaces as we know them. 🔹 Impact on Businesses Millions of businesses—retailers, publishers, and more—could experience a dramatic shift in how users engage with their platforms: ⭐ Fewer eyeballs on content ⭐ New monetization strategies may be necessary as direct engagement declines 🔹 The Future of Browsing Mariner doesn’t just assist—it replaces human actions online. Here’s the kicker: the success of web-based experiences could hinge on how effectively your website’s AI agent enables users to achieve their goals. And Mariner isn’t an isolated tool. Paired with Gemini’s Deep Research (multistep research planning) and Jules (developer GitHub assistance), this signals the rise of AI agents integrated deeply into our workflows. How will the UX of the web change as the population of LLM-powered agents on the internet grows? Very curious to hear your comments 👇 👉 link to the article: https://lnkd.in/dUJR8_ze

eCommerce & websites that are dependent on website leads or funnels to drive sales are about to be turned upside down! Googles new Gemini 2.0 AI-Agent will change website UX and how we use the web…forever! Google said this is part of a “fundamentally new UX paradigm shift, moving users away from directly interacting with websites, and instead, interacting with a generative AI system that does it for you.” 🤖 The era of AI Agents will have significant implications for brands, website design & the importance of keeping your websites content 💯% upto date with the latest information. (AI Agents can interact 24/7) “Zero Click” interactions & SearchGPT where a user gets the information they are searching for via a browser or a ChatBot is already increasing at record levels, some keywords (& webpages) are already seeing +80% Zero Click(meaning 80% of users never visited the website but saw your content in the search result or chat) this change will accelerate the move & result in even fewer users visiting your website. So what can brands do? Amplifir’s advice is to focus on the foundations of great SEO, the good news is this trend is not new, Google crawls our websites using Bot’s already to rank pages organically, just now the AI agents will be interacting with the website on behalf of the user too! #ai #aiagents #webdesign #ux #ui #chatbots #gemini #google #searchgpt #zeroclick #marketing #seo #digitalmarketing #ppc #search #aisearch #agenticai

A new wave of AI agents is set to revolutionize how we search and use the internet. Google's Project Mariner, H Company's Runner H, and Claude's Computer aim to automate tasks such as searching and visiting websites, performing complex actions like booking flights, purchasing goods, and enabling users to streamline cumbersome, multi-step online processes without repetitive manual input. This development marks a significant milestone in human interaction with online data and the role of chat- and voice-based AI services, raising questions about the future of search engines like Google, digital advertising, and online commerce. Will it decentralize the roles of current incumbents like Amazon? Who arbitrates trust and truth in search results, will it be abused by bad actors? What strategies will businesses need to adopt to effectively integrate Large Language Model (LLM)-based agents?

The Search Wars might not be won by AI, but by UI. After much press on real time accessibility, OpenAI has finally unveiled #SearchGPT, and it’s set to redefine how we interact with search engines. But here’s the catch: the race to dominate Search isn’t just about AI prowess but about mastering the User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX). For years, Google has been dominating Search with its comprehensive search algorithms and support ecosystem. But the future of #Search will lie in delivering intuitive, personalized experiences. That’s where Perplexity and now SearchGPT come in. These engines aim to turn Search into conversational journey of discovering information. Google still has a strong moat with its integration of maps, shopping, reviews, and more. OpenAI/ Perplexity will need to offer not just information and conversational abilities but also unique value-adds (e.g., visual answers) to rival Google’s extensive suite of services. This is where a superior UI, UX will become a major game changer in the future of Search. For Google, key to maintain its position on top will be multifold including: 1. Memory extracts: embedding memory of previous user interactions across its multiple platforms to make Search intuitive 2. Conversational abilities (but faster): the faster Google rolls out its own Gen AI driven search, the less probability of users switching to alternatives 3. Not overwhelm the users with 100,000+ results: the dynamics of #SEO will need to be modified to provide more relevant and to-the-point responses For OpenAI and others, the key to knock the status quo still lies in 'wowing' the users with its simplistic user experience and bringing in more attributes of visual results, connected searches, giving more freedom to users to create new content on-the-go. The shots are fired and the #GenAI supremacy races are still to be run. It will be interesting to see how the dynamic shifts (right now, it shifts every week). Also, what about Apple? Imagine the potential of embedded search functionality within your phone where search is connected to both in-phone data and external sources. The possibilities are immense and ever-changing.
