Don't miss out on the thought-provoking discussions by Maxine Ward and Marcela Gracia if you'll be at AIA San Diego a'24 x SD. Their insights are not to be missed! Maxine Ward, AIA, Principal, will be one of the debaters responding to the question "Is San Diego a World Design Capital?" It's a Turncoats Style Debate, so look forward to some theatrics and the requirement for debaters to argue both sides of the issue. Audience participation encouraged! Marcela Gracia, AIA, Associate, will present "Drawing the future: Collaborative Visions in Architecture" which explores how graphic representation in architecture has the potential to foster community engagement and promote inclusive practices.

🔔 New project on Choice Architecture and 'Dark' Patterns launched! We are excited to announce our new project with CERRE Research Fellows Christoph Busch and Amelia Fletcher. 🗝 This project follows the ongoing digital fairness fitness check and examines the topic of deceptive design and #ChoiceArchitecture. 🗝 Our academic team will map the current rules on choice architecture, identify industry best practices, and compose policy recommendations. 🗝 The goal is to identify an effective, proportionate and consistent regulatory way forward in terms of legal instruments (for instance horizontal or sectoral) and regulatory techniques. #darkpatterns #deceptivedesign

Check out the ideas that emerged from our roundtable 'Public Art: Not Just a Nice To Have' below and read the summary at https://lnkd.in/erAY8dn7 👇
"Public art is a way of bringing people along the journey” This month UP Projects and Sheppard Robson Architects hosted a roundtable event that explored the positive role that art and artists can play in shaping places, including engaging communities and contributing social value. The roundtable challenged the idea that public art is just a “nice to have”; frequently being commissioned as an afterthought or because it has been stipulated as a planning condition. You can now read a summary of the conversation that brought professionals from across public art, architecture, private development and local authority sectors together to discuss what changes are required to foreground the value of public art. 🔑 Key considerations include timing, rethinking ideas of permanence and valuing process-driven approaches. 📄 Read it at: https://lnkd.in/eVcQvaqH Jo Baxendale Clarissa Bromelle FRSA Zerritha Brown FRSA Dan Burr Synthia Griffin Dann Jessen Moira Lascelles Adriana Marques Kevin McGeough Philippine Nguyen Olaide Oboh Jessica Reynolds Anna Shapiro Ian Taylor Emma Underhill Debbie Whitfield Emma Wilcox #publicart

When filming for Design vs. Build, we always walk away with MOUNTAINS of content. Some of it is project-related, some of it design-related but all of it is interesting. A personal highlight from Season 2: After wrapping our interview about the Burke Museum, the conversation with Tom Kundig shifted to a general discussion of architecture, in which he freely shared his thoughts. Though it didn't make sense for that specific episode, it was too good to leave stored away on the server and not share! #architecture #architecturedesign #olsonkundig #tomkundig
