AVCON JET has become the launch customer for Satcom Direct's new SD Plane Simple terminal. This state-of-the-art Electronically Steered Antenna (ESA) Ku-band, flat panel terminal is set to enhance fleet connectivity by connecting with Eutelsat OneWeb’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network. This service is a cornerstone for the #AirMobilityInitiative and its mission to fly cargo and passengers with an all-electric #eVTOL.   Leveraging a multi-layered connectivity approach, the C2 data link service uniquely combines a private #A2G network built by SkyFive.world, a public cellular network, and a Mobile Satellite Service from EchoStar Mobile. The airborne components are expertly provided by our partners funke AVIONICS (data concentrator and ADS-B transmitter) and Diehl Aviation (#HPC connectivity concentrator). With #Droniq managing the U-Space and its digital services, this setup thus comprises the core functionalities needed for a #USpace. Press Release: Satcom Direct has confirmed approval by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the first Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the SD Plane Simple® Ka-band tail mount terminal for a Gulfstream G650. ✈️ The antenna complements existing SD hardware which includes a Satcom Direct Gateway Router and WiFi hub to distribute high-speed broadband to all passenger and crew devices, The Ka-band terminal is now available for installation through authorized Gulfstream Aerospace and Jet Aviation Service Centers. The installation and FAA approval also triggered the launch of an expanded range of service plans for Viasat Jet ConneX 🛰️, made exclusively available to Satcom Direct operators and include the first-ever Power by the Hour option for the JX service. Further STCs are anticipated to be confirmed for more aircraft models and other OEM airframes in July 2024. Aireon marked a significant achievement in its campaign to bring space-based VHF services to the aviation marketplace with the spectrum license filing with regulators. In a filing this month through Canadian spectrum regulator Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Aireon put forward its plans for an enhanced satellite constellation of VHF and automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) payloads to enable reliable and robust communications and surveillance service from space for aircraft around the world, with particular focus on oceanic and remote environments where ground communications infrastructure cannot support efficient operations.
