Earlier this year, we completed the acquisition of ARE in Australia, expanding our presence in the country and welcoming around 1,500 new colleagues. As part of the integration of the business into SSP, we implemented a number of initiatives to enhance collaboration and create a sense of belonging across the teams. Hayley Bell has joined the SSP team this year as part of the integration and is celebrating her 15-year career milestone. When Hayley first joined ARE, she started as a Front Counter Team Member for Hungry Jacks at the Gold Coast Airport. Today she is General Manager of the Business Unit and National Hungry Jack’s Operations Manager. Hayley’s highlight of joining SSP was the warm welcome from the wider team. She was impressed by how quickly everyone came together to support one another as well as the establishment of an open channel of communication and training implementation to help streamline the transition. Hayley has said the most rewarding aspect of her role is being able to inspire a team while witnessing their growth and success. The best part of Hayley’s journey has been the opportunity to rebuild her life for herself and her daughter, while overcoming personal challenges. Hayley is a proud mum and her passion has even inspired her daughter to join the airport retail industry – and they are now colleagues! Without this man, I wouldn't have lasted 12 months at Dee Set. *Reads first project brief with a sinking feeling* That was how I felt in 2012. I’d joined to grow the business's Morrisons account, and we quickly won a major project… which is when I realised I had *huge* process knowledge gaps. 😬 I knew how to run a business and was confident working with customers... But a 500+ store rollout including new stands, categories and products (in a very short space of time) was a little over my head. 🥁 🥁 🥁 Luckily for me, James Sharratt quickly took me under his wing and we worked on the project together. He shared his expertise and skills whilst I managed the customer side (I’ll be honest; he probably did most of the work!) Not only did he offer guidance, but he did it with no angle or competition and quickly became someone I looked forward to seeing in the office. Without this kindness and patience, I genuinely don’t know if I would have stayed (or lasted) past the first six months. 12 years on, I still reflect fondly on our time working together and the impact he had on me. 👏 These are the people who make a real difference 👏 If you can be anyone in your business, be that person. Be the colleague who goes out of their way to support new starters. Be more James. Does anyone else have a colleague who's made a lasting impact on their career? I'd love to hear stories and read a few shout outs!

Time really flies! Last week marked my fourth anniversary at SHC, and reflecting on this journey, I'm struck by how rich and transformative these years have been. I'm sharing this post not just to celebrate a personal milestone but because the insights I've gained across different roles at SHC are too valuable not to share. These experiences have deeply influenced my professional path, and I believe they can inspire and guide many of you in your own careers. Over these four years, I've worn three distinct hats—𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀. Each role offered unique challenges and learning opportunities that have profoundly shaped my approach to business. ▶ In 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀, my goal was to deeply understand our software and ensure our customers felt supported and valued. This role underscored the importance of listening attentively and solving problems effectively, which are crucial skills in any customer-facing job. ▶ Transitioning to 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵, I collaborated closely with our development team to enhance our product based on real user feedback. This experience taught me the importance of innovation and simplicity in creating tech solutions that not only function well but are also user-friendly. ▶ In 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀, I learned to simplify our complex tech talk into clear, client-friendly language. It was all about connecting our products to real-world needs and helping clients see the tangible benefits we offer, without getting bogged down in jargon. Now, I'm really excited to share what I've learned from these three different perspectives. They've not only helped me grow professionally but also given me a well-rounded view of our business. I think these insights could be super helpful for others in our industry too. A huge thanks to my incredible team for supporting me throughout this journey! I’m looking forward to sharing more, learning more, and connecting with all of you.
