Without this man, I wouldn't have lasted 12 months at Dee Set. *Reads first project brief with a sinking feeling* That was how I felt in 2012. I’d joined to grow the business's Morrisons account, and we quickly won a major project… which is when I realised I had *huge* process knowledge gaps. 😬 I knew how to run a business and was confident working with customers... But a 500+ store rollout including new stands, categories and products (in a very short space of time) was a little over my head. 🥁 🥁 🥁 Luckily for me, James Sharratt quickly took me under his wing and we worked on the project together. He shared his expertise and skills whilst I managed the customer side (I’ll be honest; he probably did most of the work!) Not only did he offer guidance, but he did it with no angle or competition and quickly became someone I looked forward to seeing in the office. Without this kindness and patience, I genuinely don’t know if I would have stayed (or lasted) past the first six months. 12 years on, I still reflect fondly on our time working together and the impact he had on me. 👏 These are the people who make a real difference 👏 If you can be anyone in your business, be that person. Now feels like a good time to reflect on my start at Seven Search and Selection Ltd! My first 3 weeks have been challenging, yet incredibly insightful. Despite being new to recruitment, I've managed to pick up on so many things in such a short space of time. Here are the top 3 things that have began to shape my new career! 😊The Seven Team: From day one, I have had incredible support from the directors - particularly because of the training provided. I have also being picking up great tips from the rest of the team too! But, most of all, the office has made me feel incredibly welcome and I can’t help but feel lucky to be a part of this talented team. 👍Sevens Values: Honesty, Understanding, Commitment and Passion. These four values are not only beneficial in a recruitment setting, but implementing these values into all walks of life can only be a positive. Ensuring that these values are applied when communicating with clients, candidates and staff members help to create a unique culture. 🙌Gaining responsibility: Starting any new job role can be daunting and the eagerness to impress is always a big thing. But being able to take my time in learning and not trying to run before I can walk, is benefitting my experience. Having added responsibility as time goes on is an indicator of progression and shows how far I’ve come since day one! For now it's time to switch off and enjoy some down time. Day 3 of our paid work experience with UK Youth: Today, we had the pleasure of hosting Dom and Zak from Bullhorn, who shared their journeys from childhood to sales management 👏. Our participants were engaged, asking loads of questions and showing great interest 🤔💬. Dom and Zak also discussed early talent opportunities at Bullhorn and what they look for in new hires 🎓. They encouraged everyone to connect with them on LinkedIn and promised to share upcoming job opportunities 💼. A great question was raised about diversity at Bullhorn, and Dom and Zak’s response was inspiring. 🌟 5 Years at Morrisons! 🌟 Today marks a milestone—5 incredible years working at Morrisons! My first job from the age of 16 to now, 21! I've had the privilege of being part of a team that has shaped my career and personal growth in countless ways. Balancing work and studies has been no small feat, but it’s taught me invaluable lessons in time management, resilience, and commitment. Throughout this journey, I’ve developed key skills in customer service, including: - Effective communication: Listening to customers' needs and finding solutions quickly. - Problem-solving: Handling challenges on the spot, from managing complaints to dealing with unexpected situations. - Teamwork: Collaborating with a diverse group of people to deliver great service every day. - Patience and empathy: Understanding the importance of treating every customer with care and respect, no matter the situation. Time flies when you're working hard (and having fun)! 🕰️ I remember my first day like it was yesterday. Walking into the office, I was hit by a wave of energy from all the young, dynamic faces around me. The onboarding was so well-organized, I felt like I'd stepped into a different world. Talk about a culture shock – in the best way possible! 😃 🌍 But here's the real kicker: I've had the incredible honour of rubbing shoulders with brilliant minds from all corners of the globe. It's like being at a never-ending international conference, but with better snacks! 🏪 Now, let me tell you about the projects in our Stores. It's not just about shifting products; it's about making a real difference. Every time we successfully implement a new system or process, I can almost hear the sighs of relief from our frontline heroes. And don't get me started on the customers – their smiles are worth their weight in gold! 😊 🚀 Of course, it's not all smooth sailing. We're in the midst of a massive transformation, trying to stay ahead of the curve in retail tech. It's like trying to change the engine of a plane while it's still flying – exciting, but not for the faint-hearted! 🏔️ As for me? I'm not done yet. 6-months ago today I started at Talent Forge Australia, so why not reflect on my first few months. By far the most I've learnt in a 6-month period. I came into the role with a degree in business but realistically didn't have much of an idea of the intricacies and nuances of the business landscape Being completely honest I didn't expect the number of factors that go into every decision and call you make in sales From hammering myself into asking open-ended questions during calls to understanding different route to markets I've loved every moment of it Learning about different industries, market trends, or just having a chat with Rob from XYZ about how the WA market is exploding I'll chalk this up to mostly my team, who couldn't have done a better job in their support, throwing me into the deep end, encouraging mistakes, and providing daily feedback Do I still waffle too much? Yeh, that's still a work in progress 🤕 Here's to the next 6 🍻
