As a mental health therapist, I’m concerned that when humanity awakens to the reality that global warming and global climate intensification are a serious survival threat to their future…..their fear and anger towards those who created this life-threatening situation could very quickly turn violent and extreme. This social anger and backlash could not only kill the golden petroleum goose; it could collapse the fragile financial structures of human civilization itself. Stated simply, my concern as a mental health therapist is the high probability that the emotional backlash created by social fear and anger will create a level of social violence that will threaten the economic and social structures of human civilization far sooner than the actual destructive impacts of global warming and climate intensification. - We know there is currently no social or political will to prepare for these rapidly approaching and inevitable realities. - We also know that without preparation there will be no resilience for survival. - We know there is no way human civilization can power down from carbon energy fast enough to reverse global warming and avoid the social and economic collapse that a rapid powering down from petroleum would create. The lives of you, your family, and the billions of other individuals, families, and children all over the world ... will live in whatever possible new future we create together. Survival in this possible new future will require the skills of a self-reliant, sustainability-focused local community; a local community with the ability to work cooperatively together. Going it alone will not be an option in this possible new future ... if your goal is survival. Dick Rauscher writes for Resilience.org #climatechange #civilisation #collapse

This is what drives me to do this work. We need realistic conversations about what IS and WILL happen emotionally, physically, spiritually because of the climate crisis. We are ALL in this together and despite the political, religious, cultural and every other divide amongst humans, we need each other. Climate is not a "movement" of certain people but everyone's reality and each of us has an important role to play in responding and taking action.💚 🌍 "“I believe in social tipping points,” where small changes in society trigger large-scale climate action, said Elena López-Gunn Click below to read in theguardian.org by Damian Carrington #climatementalhealth #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #climatechange #climatecrisis #climate #science #climateanxiety #ecoanxiety #climatejustice #climateaction #unity #unified #scientists #research #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthmonth #leadership #wellbeing #selfcare #humanity #families #youth #genz #psychology #climatepsychology

Reposting this powerful interview from Praveen Gupta with the inspiring Dr. Phoebe Barnard, a climate scientist and advocate for #bioregionalism in the #PacificNorthwest. Phoebe’s vision of a “#regenerative, #collaborative, and #nourishing” future is a call to action for us all. Her words remind us that it’s time for a profound shift in values to heal our relationships with #Nature and each other. This journey isn’t easy, but as Phoebe says, change starts with a spiritual and values transformation. A thought-provoking perspective for anyone invested in a sustainable future! #indigenousPeoples.
My interview with the brilliant climate scientist and communicator Dr. Phoebe Barnard. I had the pleasure of meeting her recently. Phoebe champions amongst many things #bioregionalism. She lives in the Skagit valley - the heart of #Cascadia - in the #PacificNorthwest (PNW). With her vision that is “#regenerative, #collaborative, and #nourishing” she hopes to overcome “the disturbing human supremacy, and cultural arrogance, which also devalues and commodifies both our relationships with #Nature and each other”. Surely we can learn better from our horrendous mistakes of the last two centuries of western individualism, extraction, profiteering, domination, and entitlement, she says. The road ahead is short and steep, the odds are long, and the vested interests have sharp teeth and claws. All we need is “a #spiritual and #values change, which will enable economic, social-cultural and political change” believes Phoebe. #IndigenousPeoples #rivers #salmons #permafrost #thawing #orcas #southernresidentkillerwhales #glyphosate #corruption #profiteering #extractive illuminem

Our recent work with clients on developing a new model for understanding the way people feel, think and behave in the context of changing climate-related social and physical environments over time is now published in Environmental Research Letters #nsightanalytics #research #psychology #socialpsychology #modeling #behavior #climatechange #environment
New paper out in Environmental Research Letters! NURTURING THE PLANET IN A TIME OF CRISIS: A SOUL-CENTERED APPROACH TO CLIMATE CHANGE—The escalating global climate crisis—highlighted by recent hurricanes Helene and Milton—has left many of us feeling powerless in the face of nature's destruction. Yet, from a soul-centered perspective, this is a critical moment to confront our collective shadow and reconnect with the Earth. My latest blog post explores how Jungian Soul-Centered psychology can guide us toward meaningful transformation in these challenging times: https://lnkd.in/gSC-bUbJ #ClimateCrisis #Ecopsychology #Jungian #SoulCentered #DepthPsychology #Nature

BBC News is asking #scientists "What is a mass #extinction and are we causing one?" The answer seems to be 'Possibly and, if not, then we are causing enough damage to threaten the very system that has enabled us to survive' (my paraphrase/summary). I am gradually turning my attention away from its past preoccupation with #diversity and #edi in the #workplace towards diversity in the #environment, across #species, and to how we mitigate the effects of #climate/#environmental change on the survival of #humans. I now have (a) grandchild(ren) as well as children. I want them to have a normal lifespan that is secure in terms of food, shelter, water, warmth/coolness. This is now under significant threat. Additionally, there is the threat from civil and uncivil war, terrorism and unrest. The latter is theoretically quicker to cure - we could just decide to live and let live for our short span here. It would take but a moment and can be done on an individual basis without any #technology or science. But the change to our environment will take much longer and requires tech and science and, I suspect, a dose of good luck. How about those famous/infamous giants of #politics, #business, #science and #industry redirecting their egos, knowledge and abilities towards co-operatively solving this problem? Imagine how great and for how long they would be remembered in #history/what a huge #legacy they could leave. After all, most of us still remember something of the story Noah, of the Ark fame, from a few thousand years ago!
