𝐌𝐓𝐀 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐑𝟐𝟏𝟏𝐒 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲 The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has rolled out its new R211S subway cars to service on the Staten Island Railway. The cars are part of a 535-car order, which includes 440 R211A standard cars with 75 Staten Island Railway cars and 20 cars with the open gangway feature. The MTA's R211S cars feature 58-inch-wide door openings that are eight inches wider than standard door openings on existing cars. The new doorways will help to speed up boarding and reduce the amount of time trains sit in stations. MTA notes the new cars are also six times more reliable than cars in the current fleet – able to travel an average of 240,000 miles between replacements and major repairs. #LatestNews #Auto #Automotive #Transportation Source - https://lnkd.in/eD52P7bx

The term "bus priority" describes policies put in place to give buses priority over other vehicles using the road network. These policies are usually intended to increase the effectiveness, dependability, and speed of bus transit. This can involve implementing dedicated bus lanes, special traffic signals called bus gates and other treatments to lessen bus delays and optimise a congestion-free route. This is supposed incentivise more people to take public transportation because journey would be much less than using the car. I’m happy to see this new policy for green band maxi taxis and their passengers travelling from central Trinidad. In speaking with a few transportation types in North America recently, it's interesting how most obsess over things like subways and rail as transit, often forgetting that buses exist. Or that you can make a bus something actually kinda nice. Yes things like routing and frequency is very important, but it can also be wasted if the vehicle itself is ugly, dirty and has seating that amplifies every bone shaking rattle by a factor of 4. What if we actually made public transport something pleasant? A bit like car manufacturers have over the past 20 years basically done nothing related to performance but installed things like cup holders, heated seats, air conditioning, leather cushioning, entertainment screens, device charging etc. Much of the 'future of...' stuff is really just putting a bit of care and attention into the customer experience, rather than looking at every component as an opportunity for efficiency. With 25 commuter buses in its fleet, the Westmoreland Transit Authority will add another commuter bus to its lineup. A Williamsport transit group reached out recently about transferring a 2015 commuter bus. It seats 53 passengers and has only 64,000 miles on it. https://lnkd.in/gpeKhnd2
