Over the last 100 years, AAA united drivers around a set of useful services, like roadside assistance, and built a powerful engine for driver advocacy, changing laws, changing roads, and changing how we get around at a national scale. At Tempo, we know some of these changes came at the expense of pedestrians, cyclists, and the climate, but we believe there are things we can learn from AAA. One reason to be a Tempo member (in addition to the roadside pickup, theft protection, and other services) is to support ebike advocacy. Tempo sponsors and partners with a growing list of bike-related non-profits who together are making the US a better place for everyone to ride an ebike. Not your standard linkedin post about immigration or customer experience… something a little different On Sunday i completed my first Hyrox race an intense mix of running and weightlifting. It was tough, humbling, and surprisingly rewarding. A huge thank you to everyone who supported through donations and encouragement. As a thank-you, here are three lessons learned along the way: 1. Facing the 100kg Sled pull and push was Intimidating. Seeing that sled in the warm-up area brought on pure panic. I hadn’t trained at that weight for 50 meters, it felt impossible. But preparation and trust in the process made it manageable—albeit with shaky legs and plenty of doubt along the way. 2. Resilience shows up when its needed the most By the final few stations, both quads and calves cramped, making every step so painful. Somehow, the body kept moving, and the 200-meter walking lunges got done, one painful step at a time. 3. The Appetite of a WWF Fighter during training is Real (I say no more) 😅 4. The Biggest Critic is often yourself - Even after finishing the race, self-critique crept in, focusing on the time instead of the effort. This experience was a reminder to celebrate the journey, especially when overcoming challenges that seemed insurmountable. Hyrox wasn’t just a physical challenge. It was an opportunity to grow mentally and emotionally. Challenges like this remind us all what’s possible, even when doubt is loud. This week there was a meeting between the NMC (National Motorcyclists Council) and DfT (Department for Transport) to discuss a strategic agenda for motorcycling. Given that UK motorcyclists have been waiting since 2005 to see some Government action, let’s hope that actioning the strategy doesn’t also take 20 years! The agenda a review will include default bus lane access, motorcycle training, testing and licensing. Also, this week the ‘Future of Roads: Pothole Partnership’ group met. There was a discussion of technical issues in highway design, access, maintenance and safety, relating to vulnerable road users including motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians. Since 2011, the numbers of motorcyclist KSIs (Killed & Seriously Injured) has flatlined. Only 1-in-5 riders go on to take a motorcycle test. After 8 hours of CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) instruction, of which as little as 4 hours is spent riding a motorcycle, the roads are packed with bikes capable of speeds up to 60mph. The situation is made worse by the vastly increased numbers of fast food delivery riders. It’s no wonder that many are learning by trial and error. It’s the riding errors that cause the most catastrophic injuries. The successful trials are more likely to ingrain poor riding habits. We don’t accept this approach with learner car drivers, so why is it acceptable for young motorcyclists? We will keep advocating for change and opportunities to ride better.

Motorcycle Season is Here - Ride Safe, Ride Smart! Motorcycle season is here; as summer draws closer, the hum of motorcycle engines fills the air. Ohio’s scenic routes and vibrant culture make it a haven for riding enthusiasts. It’s a call to the open road—a time for freedom, adventure, and the joy of the ride. With events like Blessings of the Bikes, Ohio Bike Week, and poker runs supporting local organizations and charities, May’s designation as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month comes at a crucial time. Moving into 2024, the Ohio Department of Public Safety reported 599 motorcycle crashes in Ohio up through the end of April.
