Historically when I’ve thought about the 80/20 rule I’ve thought of it as one-directional. 20% of good actions lead to 80% of good result OR 20% of bad actions lead to 80% of bad results. As we’ve worked with our clients it’s become quickly apparent that it’s BOTH at the same time. Instead of 80/20 it really is more like 20/60/20 for practical purposes. In our business, as well as clients’ business, it doesn’t take long to identify who is in the top 20 and who is in the bottom 20. However, most of our clients haven’t thought about it all! Going through this exercise has had a huge impact on the clients who have been willing to go through this exercise! In fact, unsurprisingly, I guess, 80% of them see roughly a 20% increase in revenue and/or operational efficiency/time savings.
