What is Vital Signs? 🍂 Vital Signs is an annual publication designed to identify and spotlight issues facing the communities of Milton Keynes (MK). 🍁 The concept of ‘Vital Signs’ was pioneered by the Community Foundations of Canada. The aim is to support local Community Foundations create fairer communities by using evidence-based data and insights into local needs. 🌿 Vital Signs is produced by MK Community Foundation, an independent charity with a mission to connect people with resources, skills and ideas to enrich lives, and to create positive growth for Milton Keynes. 🍃 We use this report to advise individuals, families, and businesses in their philanthropic aims. Enabling them to direct their giving to where it’s needed most and can make the most impact. 🏙 Over the last 10 years Milton Keynes Community Foundation has distributed over £9.8 million in grant funding and provided Voluntary, Community and Cultural Sector organisations with a further £8.6 million of rent subsidies. #Fundingfairness #miltonkeynes #community

There are 4 types of wealth: financial, social, time and health. Dont ignore social! This includes personal and professional social wealth. Build bonds in your community. Fill a need with your time, energy and money. Invest in a friendship. Donate your time to a non-profit. Tell someone how much they mean to you. The world is full of needs and lonely people. Our focus is on the "missing middle"—working individuals who don't earn enough and must rely on Universal Credit or grants. Often overlooked and pushed into temporary accommodation, they aren't prioritised by councils. This is where charities step in, and where we see a unique opportunity for the private sector. By offering secure, social housing for employed tenants, referenced by agency-accredited independent referencing and third-party guaranteed, we create a win-win situation. The missing middle is at the heart of our efforts in third sector bridging, landlord services, and the private rental market. Addressing America's affordable housing crisis is a pressing challenge that affects millions of individuals and families across the nation. The escalating costs of housing, combined with stagnant wages and rising living expenses, have pushed many low- and moderate-income households into precarious financial situations. Families struggling to afford housing often face difficult choices, sacrificing essential aspects of life needed to survive, which can lead to long-term negative impacts on their well-being and that of their children. By prioritizing affordable housing, we can create a foundation for stability, allowing families to focus on opportunities for growth and development. To effectively tackle this crisis, a collaborative approach is necessary, involving government, non-profits, and private sectors. Today is #GivingTuesday—a day to reflect on generosity and giving back. It always leaves me with tough questions: Which organization should I donate to? How much is enough? Who is truly making an impact? If I’ve learned one thing from speaking with thousands of people on the receiving end of aid, it’s that 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘹 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘮𝘴. Well-meaning interventions can miss the mark—or even have unintended consequences. It’s enough to make anyone feel overwhelmed and not give to charity at all. Yet, these questions matter. (Not least to my friends and family outside the humanitairan sector who, like clockwork, ask me about different aid agencies every year when we gather for the holidays...)
