Investing in deep tech can transform industries and address global challenges—but only if it’s done with a true long-term vision. Traditional funds often miss the mark by treating deep tech like any other asset, overlooking the unique, multi-decade commitment needed to grow breakthrough IP into multi-market solutions. At Aventurine Capital Group, we focus on nurturing early-stage IP to its full potential, not just bringing one innovation to market but optimizing foundational technologies across industries. Our perpetual fund model supports deep tech investments over the long haul, ensuring that IP is actively managed and developed into revenue-generating assets. With $1 trillion lost annually in underutilized IP, we’re not just investing—we’re building a sustainable strategy to maximize IP value across markets. https://lnkd.in/gF_cw9Um #IP #VC #Patents #DeepTech #Energy #Computing #Pharma

Marco Ceccarelli’s talk shed light on the critical challenges—and opportunities—facing Europe’s semiconductor ecosystem. The facts are clear: 🔹 Only 25% of startups in Europe reach Series A funding, and just 4% go beyond Series C. 🔹 Europe accounts for 8-9% of funded semiconductor startups globally, lagging behind the U.S. and China. 🔹 Deep tech startups in Europe raise 20% of the funding their U.S. counterparts achieve. Europe’s semiconductor startups face some other challenges: 🔹 High costs & long timelines discourage private investors. 🔹 Only 5% of venture capital in Europe goes to semiconductors. 🔹 Market fragmentation limits large-scale funding. 🔹 Design startups struggle with licensing costs, keeping many from scaling to production. I was very proud to see Axelera AI to be highlighted in the slides among the EIC Accelerator beneficiaries. It’s a recognition of Europe’s growing potential to lead in semiconductor innovation. With better access to funding, tools, and partnerships, Europe could close the gap and make its mark on the global stage. Exciting times ahead for the industry! 📢 Tackling the Funding Gap in EU Deep Tech at #EFECS2024 Marco Ceccarelli, Program Officer at DG CNECT, European Commission presented about the critical funding challenges faced by Europe’s deep-tech sector and how the Chips Fund aims to bridge these gaps. 🔹 Key Insights: Europe’s deep-tech startups secured only 20% of global venture capital in 2023. Scale-up gap: Just 10% of EU deep-tech ventures become scale-ups compared to 50% in the US. EU scale-ups raise 35% less capital over their lifecycle than their US counterparts. Heavy reliance on non-EU capital, with only 5% of venture funds originating within the EU. 🔹 How the Chips Fund Supports Deep Tech: Under the Chips Act, the fund is set to establish a dedicated semiconductor investment facility. It complements initiatives like the Design Platform, Pilot Lines, and the European Innovation Council (EIC) to bolster semiconductor innovation and bridge the investment divide. 🔎 Why It Matters: Strategic public financing is vital to strengthen Europe's position in the global semiconductor industry and ensure a sustainable innovation ecosystem. #ChipsFund #Semiconductors #Innovation #EFECS2024

We have been discussing about this at #chipnation in Spain. Deep tech needs long term and patient investment. This needs to be combined with encouragement policies providing short term advantages like tax rewards to investors. And the investment policies cannot be as complex as the semiconductor industry itself. It has to be clear, simple and maintained through time! Thera has to be a plan! And for deep tech, I think you need to give seed funding to all and then keep caring for those that take root in the industrial ecosystem, as these will be the ones called to revolutionise it!
