Mulqueen said the neg­at­ive per­cep­tion from some of Canary Wharf as “an unwel­com­ing and very secure fort­ress for fin­an­cial ser­vices” was “out­dated and unin­formed” Archi­tects Kohn Ped­er­sen Fox won a con­test to reima­gine the designs that take chunks out of the facade to cre­ate new ter­races and sec­tions that will be easier to lease to a range of smal­ler ten­ants. These could be offices, or pos­sibly a hotel or uni­versity, along­side shops, res­taur­ants and enter­tain­ment ven­ues. Another build­ing, One Canada Square, hosts a mix of offices for fin­an­cial ser­vices, start-ups, co-work­ing and edu­ca­tion groups. 📉 A recent study by NYC and Mastercard reveals that sidewalk sheds and scaffolding have a significant negative impact on businesses, especially bars and restaurants. These structures, while essential for safety, often linger for extended periods, leading to reduced foot traffic and sales. 🍽️ Key Findings: Businesses under sheds see a monthly revenue drop between $3,900 and $9,500. Restaurants and bars report a 3.5% to 9.7% decrease in weekly transactions after shed construction. 🏙️ Mayor Adams' "Get Sheds Down" plan aims to address these issues by: Implementing new regulations and penalties to expedite building repairs.
