Launched my career with disinterest! First day, first posting, and I knew I was in a new world altogether, no more of handholding just dive in. But here's the thing - I didn't let lack of interest hold me back. I explored, found my passion, and still achieved professional excellence! Just like an athlete doesn't only run when they feel like it, but trains consistently to win, we shouldn't only perform when interested, but discipline ourselves to excel regardless! Moral of the story: discipline trumps interest. You don't need to love it to excel. Every job has its mundane moments. It's the ones who push through, earn my admiration. How Short-Term Thinking Hurts Your Career - and How to Play the Long Game Instead Here’s a question for you. Is there a way to predict whether someone will succeed in their career… before they have done a day’s work? Believe it or not, there is. 🍭 It’s called the Marshmallow Test. You put a marshmallow in front of a 4-year-old and see if they can wait five minutes to get a second one. The researchers who did this in 1972 followed the children as they grew up and found an intriguing pattern: The children who could delay gratification did better in school in almost every metric than those who couldn’t.
