As I enter the role of Past Chair of IABC CER, I thought a timely reflection was warranted. While some elements as Chair are certain, like the role and responsibilities, in many ways I think the role is a bit of an exciting mystery. You know. It’s like the surprise ending from your favourite British spy movie or maybe an ever-enticing mystery novel. It’s that turn of the page, the “whodunit,” and the exhilaration of figuring out the answers before the ending. But answers take time. 365 days ago, when I was first elected as Chair, there were three things I wanted to accomplish. I wanted our Board of Directors to be innovative, collaborative and caring through our mutual connection. With the new, mid-year Achievement Report, we collectively delivered a brand new communication touch point. With the inaugural CER Leadership Series, a national speaking opportunity, for the very first time, CER executed a new sustainable revenue generator to directly support the development of our Chapter leaders. We turned the corner as collaborators with a new shared regional Professional Development calendar and a real openness to supporting each Chapter through best practices and resources. Remember those "ACTION" emails? Of course, there were hiccoughs along the way, and that’s the mystery part. You never knew what change might happen with the transformation of our association globally, and locally. The team learned to roll with it and help each other. That’s the caring part. I’m incredibly proud of this past Board for taking a chance of allowing me to push innovation as far as we could while maintaining a true sense of community. Maybe that’s the mystery of leadership? If you follow the clues, follow your instincts, and follow your heart, the team will come together to create a tremendous ending. Mystery solved.
We are proud to announce our incoming Canada East Region Board for 2024-2025. It's been an amazing year, and we're expecting even more innovative ideas for our incoming board across our chapters! Australians from all over the country, with different backgrounds and contributions to their community, are recognised in the Order of Australia. And with that in mind, it’s likely there is someone in your life who deserves it, too. Recognition doesn’t happen unless someone takes the time to nominate. The process is simple and help is available. Head to the Australian Honours and Awards section of the Governor-General’s website at this link, https://bit.ly/3W3BJwF, with information including; 1. The nominees name and contact details; 2. Your name and contact details; 3. A description around why they deserve recognition; and 4. At least two referees; And nominate a deserving person you know. Your nomination is the beginning of the process. After it is submitted, an independent case officer in the Australian Honours and Awards Secretariat begins researching the nominee, before they are presented to the Council of the Order of Australia. It won’t be judged on the quality of writing, and you don’t need to know everything about the person you are nominating. It is good to include as much information as possible, even if it’s in dot point form. You can find suggested information to include and other helpful tips here: https://bit.ly/3wElHz4 To learn more about past recipients, their profiles are available to read here: https://bit.ly/3W32H7N Change someone’s life by nominating them today.
